Where can I begin... Honestly, until now, I have actually been well treated at other Chrysler dealers throughout the country, especially those in the larger DFW type metro areas.  Recently, I moved to Portray, TX (pop.3,500+) and decided to get my 2007 PT Cruiser serviced at Cecil Atkiisson Motors in Burnet, TX.  That's when my problems began.

First off, let me explain that several of my best friends are certified auto mechanics that own their own shops in the Austin, TX area.  My wife has been a service writer for them for over 8 years ... and she KNOWS cars.

I went to the dealership and asked them to install a new TPS switch.  I have an extended bumper to bumper warrenty and asked them to tell me what I owed after my $100 deductable.  The service writer said that it would be approximately $125, but he would call to confirm.

Several hours later, he gave me the news that I HAD to have new brakes as they were metal on metal, my transmission MUST receive immediate service, and a general tune-up was also needed.  He said that he also found a different code (other than the TPS code) and needed to deal with it.

I agreed to a new TPS and as a kindness, a transmission service even though I could get it done elsewhare for less than the $184 they charged me.  When I picked it up, I was told that I DIDN'T need a TPS switch and that they used $24 worth of cleaner and $100 worth of labor.  Problem fixed.

I asked to speak with the mechanic and he had "left for the dayt".

On my 20 mile drive home, NOTHING changed.  The TPS is faulty and needs to be changed.  Check Engine Light is back on.  I tried several days to see if it got better ... and of course it didn't!

So, I called the General Manager (who I had met while in the service bay) and explained this all to him.  He appologized and said that he would check into this and promised he would fix everythig and get back to me by the end of the day.  It is now 2 weeks later and NOTHING!  I tried to call and his receptionist said that he was out and didn't know when he might be back.  So, it seems I have been lied to, cheated and stolen from!

As an aside, this last weekend I had one of my mechanic friends change my brakes and he said that I still had at least 20% left ... NO metal on metal ... darn, lied to again!

I hate that this person had such a bad experience with Cecil atkission motors in Burnet because my experiences with them have always been the complete opposite.

I am on my 2nd vehicle from them and I always take my car in to them to get serviced. I have never encountered anything anywhere near what this person has and I just want to remind other consumers out there that each person will have a different view on the same experience.

I have nothing but good things to say about the salesman and staff there and I actually changed my opinion about dealers being sleazy across the board because of my experience with them. I plan to purchase vehicle from them for my daughter in a few years and my parents also are looking into upgrading their vehicle with them based on what they have personally witnessed through my experiences with them.

I would recommend them to anyone that was looking for a new or used car and I hope that everyone that reads this individuals report keeps in mind that everyone is entitled to their own opinion but you must judge based on your own experiences and you should definately give these guys a shot and I hope you are as happy with them as I am.

I had more to say but I had already typed up a rebuttal before this one and lost it before it posted so this one is shorter but I am out of time so in a nutshell, judge for yourself. Good luck!!

If you need work done which is NOT covered by the warranty, you DO NOT need to get it done at a dealership! As per the Magnuson-Moss Act, you can have ANYBODY do that non warranty work without voiding the warranty. Find a good independent shop, not Walmart or a quick oil change place and establish a relationship with them. Use the dealer for only covered warranty work unless the warranty allows otherwise. The sleaziness of the car business has extended into the service department.
