I ordered a custom guitar case from Cedar Creek Custom Case Shoppe in May of 2011. They gave me a "10 week" production time. They said they would ship it on July 15, 2011, and that they would call me with the shipping details at that time (this from Laurie Dougherty, Cedar Creeks Domestic and International Operations Manager).

I heard nothing from them on the 15th. I called them on the 18th to get an update. I was put on hold so they could get an update for me. After a couple minutes I was told they would have to call me right back.

Three hours later they had still not called me back, so I had to call them back and was told my new ship date was August 22, 2011. No apologies, just stated like this was perfectly normal for them. I told them this was unacceptable and that I wanted my money back (customers have to pay the full amount, including shipping, when they place an order).

They told me that I would not get my money back because they had already "ordered the parts" for my case. This is a custom case shop where they advertise several choices for the interior, exterior, etc., for your case. These are the standard parts that they stock to fill orders.

If they really had to order these parts, they would likely come from their parent company, TKL Cases, and would be available for another order with mine cancelled . This would hardly be a problem for them, assuming they are telling the truth in the first place.

If anyone from Cedar Creek had called me when they realized my order would be delayed, not to mention massively delayed, and apologized, I might have been annoyed, but I would have likely had them continue with the order. The fact that no one did this, or even apologized when I called them and they told me of a six week delay, let's me know that this is a company that no one should  have anything to do with.

A six week delay on an order with a 10 week production time is unacceptable without getting the permission of the customer. They should be ashamed of themselves.

On 7/19 I was contacted by Laurie and told my case was in production and scheduled to be delivered that week. She reminded me that my delivery date had been moved to 7/22 after my sales order with the 7/15 delivery date had been sent to me. This is correct, I had forgotten.

She told me that I had been "misinformed" by the two customer service employees that I had spoken with  the day before. My case was shipped to me on 7/21. The following is my correspondence to Laurie after receiving the case (she mentioned my Ripoff Report in an email and asked me to remove it):

Hi Laurie,

I would have responded sooner, but I had surgery last week and was out of commission until the last couple days.

The case looks good, unfortunately a poor job was done on the "custom fit."
The case isn't noticeably custom fitted at all, and the guitar sits
rather loosely in the case, especially in the lower bout. I can actually
push the lower bout of the guitar back and forth and make a windshield
wiper motion out of the headstock and neck. This is rather surprising
coming from the people who make Huss & Dalton cases for Huss &
Dalton. It's also the opposite of any of the TKL cases I have or have
had, which is to say the two that came with my H & Ds, and the one
that came with my Martin OM-28 Marquis. They all fit nice and tight, the
way you told me you/TKL liked them, which is also how I like them. You
actually have to push the guitars into the case until they settle in.
However, a close but not tight fit that doesn't allow movement, like the
Ameritage I got for my other H & D, is perfectly fine. Sadly, this
doesn't even meet that criteria. Bottom line, my case, while nice
looking, won't protect as well as the TKL that came with my guitar and
which would sell for less than half the $600 I paid for this case (I
could have had an Ameritage delivered to my door for less than half as
well). But I wanted something custom and special. I guess I got it.

I'll always wonder whether this poor job was due to it being rushed after
Diedre and Diane informed me that my case wasn't in production and I got
angry and wanted my money back, or if you told the truth and it had
actually been in production and they just did a shabby job.

Re:
Ripoffreport & Scaminformer, I had planned to update/amend the
entries as soon as I saw the case. I don't know if you'll like the new
entries any better, but I guarantee you'll feel better about them than I
do about my inferior $600 case and wasted money.

Regards,
