After watching a segment on the Today show, I applied for a job to work-from-home working for ChaCha Inc.  The work paid very little, but I enjoyed it and so I continued to work for them.

The payment rules are that you have to earn $100 before you get paid.  You have two methods to receive your pay.  The first method is to open an account at the bank they specify and get a Debit Card.  Then you are able to use the Debit Card to get your pay.  However, every time you access your Debit Card, you are charged $2.00.

The second way to get your pay is to set up Direct Deposit to your own bank account.  I chose this method since it didn't involve me paying to get my own pay.  I completed the information for the Direct Deposit.  I have been a bookkeeper and payroll technician for over 20 years, I know how to complete a Direct Deposit form.  Therefore, I wasn't concerned when I read that ChaCha would charge me $10 if my Direct Deposit information wasn't correct.  Yes, you heard me correctly, they will charge me if they can't pay me.  They say this is because the bank charges them if the Direct Deposit fails.  In all my years as a payroll technician, I have never had a bank charge me for refusing a Direct Deposit.

The problem with this is that there is no way to go back into your information and make sure that you filled out the Direct Deposit information correctly.  Also, ChaCha only processes payments once a month on the 15th.  So after the 15th of the month, I waited and waited--no pay.  I contacted ChaCha--no response.  I tried again--no response.  After the third try, I received an email from ChaCha saying that my Direct Deposit did not go through and I owe them $10.  This is when I decided I had had enough and I quit working for this company.

I again went in and filled out the Direct Deposit information.  I emailed that I quit and asked how I go about getting the $145 that is owed to me--no response.  I even wrote a letter to the president of the company and mailed it--again, no response.  So I decided to wait for the 15th to roll around again and see if my $145 would be deposited into my checking account.  It never was.  I emailed and asked where my pay is--you guessed it--no response.  I emailed a second time--no response.

So here I am.  All I want is my $145 sent to me so I can put this nightmare of a company as a "learned lesson" in my past.  Thank you for your help.
