I have a really good credit history. Never missed any payment in my whole life and got close to perfect credit history right now. Last year I lost my job and got a little short on money so had to use my chase credit card. Four months after that I got a letter from chase telling me that my APR has gone up from 7.99% to 23.99%, It was hard to believe and I was pretty sure there is been some mistake since I was still making the minimum payments. I called them and was told that there is no mistake ,that is the APR I should be getting. Not only this, they started charging that interest on the whole outstanding balance. Not to mention, my other credit cards like BOA continued to give me 5.99% APR even though I was up to 75% of my credit limit on those cards. 2 months after that, I got another letter from chase telling me that my APR has gone up to 30%, again without any particular reason.

The bottom line is if you want to keep the credit cards for the rainy days like most of the people never go for Chase. Once you are in need of money, they will RIP YOU OFF really bad.

Same thing happened to my wife's Chase card. She has nothing negative on her credit report, yet Chase upped her rate to 32% 3 months AFTER increasing her limit! She has never been late with anybody, yet they think they can justify an increase just to line their pockets. However, if you close the card, you will still be at your old rate. But closing a credit account can be risky to your credit score. What I did was I immediately filed a report with the BBB, and sent an email to Chase stating that this increase is a blatant ripoff designed to increase profits, and that I have reported it to the BBB and Attorney General's office. This month, there were numerous credits to our account due to the drop in our apr. try it, you have nothing to lose exept high interest fees.
