Apparently, Chase Visa, in its attempt to reverse its mounting credit card losses has come up with a new scheme. Simply charge a late fee whenever possible. Unless the payment is sent with tracking information, the customer can't prove what day they received your payment.

We have always paid our Chase Visa Bill in full, on time, every month. We usually send it in at least a week before the due date. In October of 2008, we received a late charge which was reversed upon request - and after some work on our part. In December, we again were assessed a late fee. This time, they say it won't be reversed. Payment was mailed eight days before the due date. We reminded Chase that there was inclement weather in their part of the country about this time, perhaps THEY failed to process our payment in time. Response: Not our problem.

My advice: Cancel your Chase Card. They have every incentive to rip you off, you have little recourse if they do, and they know it. Unless you want to stand in line at the post office to get a delivery confirmation, or set it up to pay online, you lose.

Remember, it used to be the postmark that governed receipt. Chase conveniently changed the rules on that one!
