After hounding the crap out of them the dealer called me once again telling me the GM Warranty Rep wanted me to bring the vehicle in and leave it overnight so he could listen to it again (more crap, read the original post). It would be scheduled in 3 weeks. Right................. I suggested that was not acceptable and they were jerking me around until the warranty was expired. I told him that if this wizzard wanted to hear it he can come to my house any workday at 7:30AM. A half dozen trips to the dealership for the same issue is plenty. Enough!! I gave the dealer 24 hours to answer the question as to whether they were going to fix it or not. Yes or No. I told him that my next step would be Arbitration and I would not back off once started. The dealer called back within the time allowed and informed me they would fix it. Short version..........the block looked good with no scoring, 3 pistons were destroyed with the skirts scuffed badly. They replaced all 8 pistons with new standard pistons with coated skirts and it just so happened that each and every one was .005 larger than original stock. Gees...........wonder how that happened..... The piston to cyl wall clearance is now .003 give or take on all cyls. That is still too much but proves that it was in excess of .008 before repair on all cylinders. That is just stupid but obviously intentional. Got about 1000KM on it since the repair and at this time it is probably the most quiet GM in town. Hope this info will help some other poor sap get their vehicle fixed. Good Luck!!

Mitch, unfortunately you are in Canada and I know absolutely nothing about warranty law in Canada, except for that it is somewhat similar to the laws of the U.S. If you had purchased this vehicle in the U.S. you would probably have a slew of options. This is because down here, when a dealer fails to live up to the terms of a warranty by refusing to repair a problem that is covered under said warranty, the purchaser is able to pursue any legal remedy available, up to and including a recission of the sales contract. What this means is that, when they refuse to do the work called for under the warranty, you can be put in the same position as you were before you purchased the vehicle: they get the malfunctioning car back, and you get your money back. If I get a little extra time I will try to find out how this would work in Canada. Of course, the utlimate resolution will depend on the specific terms of the warranty. Just a couple of questions though: did you purchase this vehicle used? And, if so, are you sure the warranty transferred to you? Also, is this vehicle used as a part of a commercial enterprise? You say you have three 2002 GMs, is this a "fleet" for a business purpose? This could potentially affect your warranty rights. Good luck

Hello, Mitch; This is a common problem. Here are a few websites you might want to read. [DELETED] If you do a search with 'chevy piston slap', you will get a lot of results. Many Chevy engines built between 1999 through 2002 have developed this, and it has created a lot of unhappy ex-chevy buyers. Good Luck to you, Jud H.
