and you just found out what happens when you choose a cheap mover. While you didn't say so, you should have added that you received these 8 phone calls as a result of a search online for a mover; your inquiry is what started the ball rolling to the disaster that befell you. Finding a mover online is one of the worst possible things a consumer can do; the biggest scam artists are on the internet. The true cost of any move (and I mean real cost) is when you get a quote from one of the well known movers from United, Mayflower, Bekins, Allied, North American, Atlas, and the like, and they're located in a brick and mortar building. If you get a quote any lower than these guys, you're going to get shafted. All of what happened to you is common when contracting with any scam mover; you don't know who you're getting, you don't know when they're coming to get your stuff, you don't know when they'll deliver, and you don't know what condition your stuff will arrive in. And yes, $0.60 per pound valuation is all you can get to replace your items. In the end, it cost you far more to have the cheap mover move you than it would have if you'd contracted with one of the big named movers. It's too bad this happened. Best of luck to you....
