Chris Jones - Sports Rap - WTMY 1280 AM Sold Fake Radio Advertising Package - Took Money, Delivered NOTHING Sarasota Florida
Earlier this year, we signed a contract with Chris Jones of Sports Rap on WTMY 1280 AM in Sarasota. To be included in this $5,500 advertising package were:
* Season Tampa Buccaneer Tickets
* Write-up with Special Offer in brochures and postcards mailed to major NFL Players
* Production of 30-second Ad
* Roughly 160 30-second spots to be aired during peak afternoon drive times over a four month period
* Committed reimbursement for dental treatments given as promotions on the show and to show guests
We have received NOTHING... except dishonest answers, outright lies and excuses. The General Manager and Production Manager at WTMY 1280 AM claim not to have an association with Chris Jones (other than allowing him to pre-purchase air time with the station) and will not honor this agreement, accept responsibility or hold Chris Jones accountable.
We demanded a refund and eventually received a letter from his Attorney Christopher Smith of Sarasota with a promise to pay. Several weeks later we received a check for a partial amount written on an account with insufficient funds.

Chris has plead NO CONTEST to all the charges against him and will be sentenced on March 5, 2010 @ 1:30 pm, Pinellas County Courthouse.

Just as an update. Chris Jones was arrested, and may even still be in jail as of this date. I was ripped off by him too, as was a colleague of mine. My colleague filed a complaint with the FBI, which turned it over to the State Attorney. The State Attorney opened a file, investigated and charged Mr. Jones with 2 counts of Scheme to Defraud (one count for me, one for my colleague, I guess). He got us for $5,600 using the same story as everyone else - Buccaneers affiliation, former-NFL player, top-rated talk show, etc. etc. All lies. The radio station owners should also be indicted for being complicit in his scheme. In my case, the radio station filed false documents with the FCC regarding the airing of my commercials. Just FYI - I encourage everyone who has been ripped off to contact the State Attorney's office - Pinellas County - 727-464-6221. A pretrial conference is scheduled for May 18, 2009 @ 8:30Am at the Pinellas County Criminal Justice Center, Room 1000, 14250 49th St N, Clearwater. See you there.

Well after screwing most of the small business owners on advertising and other promises in the Sarasota/Bradenton area, Chris is on the move. He has left WTMY and moved back to the St. Petersburg area. He is suppose to start broadcasting on WTIS 1110 am around March 1st. Surprisingly this is a religious station. So maybe he is either going after the religious community or asking for absolution (don't know). In any case people of St. Pete/Clearwater beware of this man.
