CIC Credit Manager unauthorized monthly charges Ripoff California
In April of 2006, I visited freecreditreport.com. I signed my wife up for a "free credit report". Yeah right. Apparently the company CIC Credit, owned by the Experian creidt agency, charged my Visa account $9.95 for a monthly service I never requested. On my Visa bill the charge is as follows; "CIC*CE Credit Manager". Not knowing what that was, I contacted my Visa company. Speaking with a fraud representative, I was told that this charge was related to a "free credit report" that I authorized in April. Due to the fact that I did not cancel my free credit report after the one month trial period, I was being charged the monthly monitoring service fee. I did not request this service.
In contacting "free credit report" at 1-877-481-6826, they requested my credit card number for authorization purposes. I told them, "Obviously you have my credit card number, so why should I give it again?" Then they asked for my social security number. I refused. I told them to pull up my account and I would verify the information. They did. I told them the charges were not authorized. The calltaker said although I did request the service and failed to cancel it within 30 days, she would see if her supervisor would authorize a credit to my account. They did. I also informed them of over 1,400 other people who filed similar reports on rip-off-report. She said she was sorry to hear that. Yeah I bet.
We shall see if it stops here or continues. Judging by the look of many of these similar complaints, it will be a while before I see a credit. What a shame, I would expect more from one of the three main credit report bureaus.
