I am charged 79.95$ by CIC credit monitoring services on my visa credit card for this month. Most suprisingly, This is the first time i heard the name of the company.

I remember once filling in free credit report service that is available in yahoo website.

I checked no thanks option regarding their product & just asked for free report service. I didn't receive anything from then, Now all of a sudden they charged me this amt. Oh god, This is too much for a student.

They are clever enough not to leave a signle clue to unsubscribe from this service.

I am thinking of cancelling the credit card itself.

There should be no need to cancel your card all together, but you might just change the account number for peace of mind. You are entitled to a full refund by calling CIC's customer service number, again: 1-888-888-8553. According to their "Terms of Agreement" you receive an automatic 6 month Money Back Garauntee. You are well within the necessary time frame. Insist on a FULL refund, not a prorated version. There address is: 1 City Blvd. West Suite 1000, Orange, California, 92868 or 14144 Dickens Street, Suite 204, Sherman Oaks, CA, 91423. I have not tried this contact information. Their Internet equivalent is consumerinfo.com. They are not explaining the credit monitor purchase in a sufficient manner, because they hide behind the hype of a "Free Credit Report". When you agree to receive a free credit report from them, you are purchasing a credit monitoring security program, along with the free report. There objective is to provide you with "hard-to-obtain" personal and finacial information. They also explain that they are not responsible for overdraft fees or insufficient funds, in your accounts. They reserve the right to change their "Terms of Agreement" and "Privacy Policy" at any time. (This means move fast, they just might) There "Privacy Policy" is not so private. They detail how and why they will give your information out to "Third-Party" merchants. Those merchants might be of interest to you or to them. This is why changing your account numbers is very important, not just credit cards, but all accounts. The term "monitor" is the key. You are buying a monitoring system, not a credit report. I suggest you cancel immediately, and again change all account numbers to resecure your Electronic/Internet identity. The corporate Principal Contact is: Ed Ojdana, here is a FAX, you might need: 714-978-0059, and two additional numbers: 1-714-978-0078 or 1-714-978-2357. The first number given should be enough For future reference, beware of these aliases: Consumer Info, creditmatters.com, freecreditreport.com, homeradar.com, I Place, I Play Image and QSpace.com Hope you get your refund.
