I recently ordered a Gateway 24" LCD Computer Monitor from Circuit City.com. The monitor came and the picture was great(already had a bad monitor from Bestbuy that was returned without incident for a refund). Didn't pick up another from BB cause Circuit City had them beat on price.

Found out the USB port built into the monitor didn't work on the new screen, called the 1800 CC online number and talked to a rep there. I asked her if I could return the monitor to the store because this was the second defect that I had, and didn't want another.

She called the store (the store doesn't carry this monitor or any others similar or even the same size category), they said that it was a 15% restock fee to return a monitor(which you never see the restock fee before purchase, This was the very FIRST TIME I HAD HEARD OF RESTOCKS ON MONITORS).

They told me that it was even a 15% restock fee if the box had never been opened. I explained that the store did not carry the monitor, this was the second of the same monitor I had was bad, and just wanted to return it. She called back, supposedly talked to the store manager, and came back with the same story. 15% restock fee even if defective and they had nothing to exchange it for.

So I explained to her, I wasn't going to pay the restock fee, I just want another monitor then. She then wanted to charge me shipping, and I said that was ridiculous. She said she would get shipping paid for me, but that someone would have to call me next week due to the holidays to set this up. I am doubting that anyone will call.

Bestbuy no problem returning a defective monitor yet Circuit City wants to charge restock fees. Not only that But I don't even believe that BB even charges restock fees for monitors.

No more business anymore to anyone who want allow returns of at least defective. Sad thing is I have worked before for both retaillers in the not so distant past, but now I feel like they are both going downhill. They wonder why people do more shopping online now.
