Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
This experience is extremely similar to another victims listed with an IPOD mini experience. My wife, who is 9 months pregnant, had gone into Circuit City in Rego Park (Store 3686) to pick up a Sony DSC-V3 camera to be used to capture the precious memories of our soon to be first child.

She purchased the item, and went home without event. After getting home she called me to inform me she got the camera. I asked to her open the box and charge the camera so that I could play with it when I got home. This is where the problem begins.

Upon opening the box, she tells me that there is no camera or any camera related items in the box. There were only 2 taped up bundles of nails and 1 taped up bundled of metal chain. These bundles were placed in each compartment of the box so that the weight distribution and feel of the box remained in tact.

My wife immediately calls the store (less than 30 minutes later) to explain what happened and find out what she needs to do to have this problem resolved. She is told that a "Manager" will call her back. After 30 minutes no one called her back, and she decided to go back to the store.

She gets in to the store and presents a rep with what happens showing them the box. The customer rep obviously does not believe my wife and gets other reps from the store. At this point 5 or 6 'employees' are surrounding my wife making her to feel like she's a criminal. They were very disrespectful and made my wife feel very uncomfortable (she is 9 months pregnant!!!)

They tell her "There is nothing we can do for you." "How do we know you did not do this yourself?" "Call our corporate number and file a complaint"

My wife is asked to leave the store. I get home at this point and begin to make calls. I call the store. No manager is available, and the Rep I dealt with new of the story (probably because it was the joke of the store) and was RUDE to me on the phone. She told me to call corporate as there was nothing she could do.

I called corporate and opened a case. These Reps were very friendly and appalled at how my wife was treated. I gave every detail of the experience and the names of the sales rep, store manager etc. The HQ Rep said she was going to call the store to speak to a manager and would call me right back.

Less than 5 minutes later she called me back telling me, to her surprise, no one from store management was available to field her call. She said that they would follow up Monday and get back to me.

I asked what am I to do in the mean time, with no camera and out ~$570? She said the case is open, investigation will happen, and she couldn't do anything else until Monday. She recommended I call Sony directly and explain to them the situation.

I then call Sony who states this is obviously a Circuit City issue, but took down all of the serial number information so that the camera can be flagged as stolen.

At this point nothing has been resolved. I will call Circuit City HQ back today and depending on the outcome of that call, will probably file a police report.

If you used a credit card, put the item in dispute with your bank

If you used a credit card, put the item in dispute with your bank if the store doesn't immediately make it right. To the other poster mentioning the serial #, most high end products have the serial # on the outer box. The store records it at purchase to prevent switching & returning a broken item for a new one. If bought by check and check not cashed, stop payment at once. Some debit card issuers will help too -check your bank. If none of these work, sue in small claims court for a refund. Since switching & returning is common and can victimize a purchaser like your wife, stores really need to inspect expensive items at purchase time to insure completeness & correctness.

John I got the serial number off the bottom of the camera box. Where did I state that anyone threw a hissy fit? My wife simply went back to circuit city to rememdy this situation. Unfortunately the store did not believe her and treated her poorly. After her poor treatment she was very upset. Could you blame her? I understand that this might be a scam that others have pulled off, but imagine you really did pay for a camera, get home, find a box of nails, and then get treated like YOU were the criminal. If you can imagine this, then you know how we feel. I AGREE SOME THINGS ARE BEYOND THE STORE LEVEL, which is why i called Corporate and filed a complaint (as i clearly stated in my original post) Unfortunately it was a friday night, and no one was available to assist us then. I was told I would receive a follow up call on monday morning. I will post the results of that call. Still Disgusted, but hoping for the best.

in the story above you state that you gave the serial number where did you get the serial number from? i used to work at the local staples and we had people that would buy something and they return the box an hour later stating that they had no reciept and we sometimes depending who took care of the issue would slip by until the customer was out of the store and then we realized that there was nothing inside the box except nuts washers and other stuff i had a husband and wife team on me when i first got there to work me over and distract me just long enough to get me away from the phones and when i came back after they had left there were three empty phone boxes and this is the reason as to why the store probaly didnt believe you right off one person comes in and buys the camera and then someone comes in a few hours or minutes complaining that there was no camera in the box but instead the nails and stuff and asking for a refund a new camera or whatever this examle is the reason as to wether your wife is preganant or not they overtime become desensatized to stuff like this. you would be amazed who wold pull this kind of stuff. please post a rebuttle on this i would like to hear what the district or whoever did for you and if they made it right. REMEMBER SOMETHINGS ARE BEYOND THE STORE LEVEL THAT IS WHY THRERE IS A DISTRICT AND REGIONAL MANAGERS, But threre is no reason in going in there and throwing a hissy fit it will make a lasting impression and if help is what you want help is the last thing in the world you will get if you throw a fit in the store
