Citi Cards is a huge ripoff! They cheat their employees out of hundreds of dollars a month on their paychecks and when you go to HR they tell you to call this 800 # who has no answers eighter and you just get the run around and no anwers and you never recive the money that you were not paid. As far as there sick time is concerned they are very predudest as to who gets more sick time. I was out sick for a week [5 days] and had been to the hospital, when I came back they were giong to fire me! Even though I still had sick time left. There was another person who was out for three weeks and had no sick time left and was not even sick, she ws just having childcare issues, and they let her come back. When I asked my boss [Randall] about it he said they could not fire her because she had four kids. I said 'well I have three kids and you were going to fire me' he replied "well her kids dad is not around to help and yours is". So they punish you if your not a single parent apparently.

Citi cards also put us through training , they basically taught us how to lie to customers. When we would ask for an explanation on something they would not even give us the answer, because they didn't want us to give it to the customer. When we asked what kind of explanation we should give the customer we were told "Just tell them what they want to hear ans get them off the phone" it didn't matter to them that we were not servicing the cust at all. they told us to lie and tell cust things that were not any way the truth, they told us to tell cust things would be corrected then we were instructed not to correct them.

My boss in particular at citi was very sexiest. If I needed help with something and one of the guys asked for help with something he would stop helping me to go help one of the men. He made a comment to me one day that I took to HR and they did nothing. He had told me "thats ok that your an airhead your just a girl and all girls are airheads". He said this to me just because I had asked him a question and apparently interuppted his time.

So in conclusion Citi bank is a horrible place to work and a horrible place to do buisiness and they rip you off no matter what!

It seems like a few people from Citi have come here with an agenda, it is obvious they are waving the flag. Citi is a very micro-managed company. They do not treat individuals with respect. My fiance still works there, I stay in touch with my old friends who are managers and trainers and it's always the same converstaion. Citi gives people a lot of time off to use which is true. However, many people have been termed before their time was used up based on attendance issues. Also, they "give" you the time of the first day you start and first day of the year but that doesn't mean you earned it. It's prorated time. If you use all of your time but decide to leave the company in September for example, then you will get a fat bill in the mail for taking the time off you hadn't earned. Why would they do that? Well because they paid you for it... but you hadn't earned it, so they are taking it back. That is a fact.... not one of you people still working there can deny that. No one is told that, but it is in the pages upon pages you sign when you are hired. There are branches of Citi that aee very generous and great to work for, but this person's experience sounds all too familiar. I know a rep who was taking vacations with her manager and her manager was approving it as bereevment. That same manager fired someone for attendance because they took a day over their unplanned time allowed (when people are notorious for being 50+ hours over). Is citi a "rip-off"? In certain ways, yes.. but what company isn't? I know the human resources department in Tucson treats the workforce like garbage. If you go to payroll with questions about your paycheck, they are virtually clueless. It's a very politically charged company. You have to politic to succeed. Make sure you make the right people happy or they will make life miserable for you. And being that my fiance was a single mother there at one point, I can tell you certain managers do single them out. You current employees may not think it's a reality, but it is. As for the training, we werent trained to lie, but we were never told much about anything. I know from studying financing in my earlier college years, that Citi was giving their employees false information regarding many things from the federal prime rate and who controls it to information given to them regarding payroll and time off. It is a company that is never cohesive. What one manager does is never consistent with another. And management hardly ever takes responsibility for failure and lays it out on the employees. It isn't the worst company in the world, but this isn't an original story.

Quit your whining and pay your bill! Can you not pay on line or have it taken out in auto payments? Yes, the company does suck. The collectors are bored, young and mostly cocky.

It all depends on the particular card you have. Citi has their own company named cards as well as several Retail Private Label cards (eg: Home Depot, Staples, Radio Shack etc.. the list goes on) I'll start with the collection calls, by law they should not be calling you more than once a day. If they are calling you more than once a day, you could always file a complaint or when you call them back or answer the calls ask for their name and what site they work in and call back to contact their supervisor. As for the late charges, I would suggest checking and making sure your mail carrier hasn't changed recently. Sometimes when your local mail carrier changes, it causes your mail to run later than it has in the past. Also, you may want to look into making your payments online. Some times it can take up to 2 days to post to your account, however it's a lot quicker than sending payment by mail.

As employees, maybe you can help me here

I have read the rebuttals above and really, if Citi is such a great company, then maybe you can help me here as no one seems able to help on the phone. I mail my payment in every first of the month and have done so for the past 4 years. Suddenly, this year, Citi has taken to not posting payment to my account until the 20th of the month, AFTER I would incur a late fee. When calling about this, I was told, Well, the payment didn't post until the 20th. I told the ignorant woman, you received the payment before then, and didn't post until the 20th, it is Citi's fault for doing payments late. I have now had my APR increased and am incurring all kinds of late fees as Citi is continually posting my payment after the late fee would be incurred. (Still sending payments on the 1st of the month, by the way). Now also getting collection calls at least 5 times a day (which I see as harrassment as I have already talked to numerous people) If this is such a "great" company, why are they not taking care of a loyal customer who has had an account in good standing for the past 4 years? Its not about not paying my bill, or not about paying on time, as I have said before, I have paid every 1st of the month. It is about slow processing on Citi's part. What can be done about this?

I'm a current employee at Citi, and I would just like to take a moment to respond to the misguided thoughs of a former co-worker. NA- In response to your complaint, I would just like to say that you are quite misguided. If you are being shorted hundereds of dollars a month in pay, you have no one to blame but yourself. The system used for pay requires an approval by YOU in order to be completed every week. If you were so out of it that you can't remember the hours you've worked, that's your problem. The only deductions in pay that are made are for volunteer time off, that YOU request. The training that we go through as associates does not teach us to lie to customers. The training is very in depth and was a great experience. In training you learn how to operate computer systems and how to conduct a call in a professional manor. In my entire time at Citi, I've NEVER been told to lie to a customer, and for that matter, any associates who HAVE lied to customers have been fired. As for the additional responses, the day you go in for testing (even BEFORE day one of training) you are told that the job is a Customer Service SALES job. If you don't like that, then the job is not for you. Citi has great benefits as well. For employees that have worked at the company 5 years or less, you receive 104 vacation hours, 80 holiday hours, and 48 hours of sick time, all of which to use as you wish. Citi also offers full health benefits day 1, as well as numerous employee discounts and tuition re-embersment. The biggest complaint I've gathered from the articles submitted by customers and ex-employees alike are that Citi will charge late fees and the cards have a high interest. First of all, the Sears cards are private label, so the interest will be higher. Second, if you don't make a minimum payment BY the due date, yes you will get a late fee. No one is forcing you to use the card. Someone didn't hold a gun to your head and make you charge thousands of dollars that you will never be able to pay. So a simple solution if you don't like the policy - don't use the card. It's not like this is a suprise. The policies are stated in black and white in the Terms of the account that are provided for you when you open an account. I think what most people are forgetting is that Citi is a company out to make a profit, just like ANY other company. Having a bleeding heart and catering to every 90+ days delinquent account holders demand to remove all fees is not going to make a profit. Will we remove fees? Yes. Interest and fees are part of having a credit card, and to be perfectly honest, if you can't comprehend that, then you shouldn't have a card in the first place. Like I've said before, Citi is a great company to work for. Our associate aren't trained to lie to customers, or belittle them in any way. The job is to provide customer service while also offering account enhancing programs that benefit the customer. At the end of the day, Citi is a supportive place to work, and I enjoy my job.

I have worked for Citi Cards for the past 3 years. It is true that you only get...18 planned days (vacation), 6 unplanned days (sick), 10 holidays plus any angel days ON THE FIRST DAY you start work! Plus your insurance starts on the first day. How horrible....:-(, It is true that we can't help everyone. Is it our fault that someone ran their credit card up to the maxium? Some will tell you that we forced them to use it. If they are past due they can talk to collections and we have several great programs that people can get set up on. It requires them to (OMG) pay the debt that the racked up. It is a great company to work for. It does suck sitting on the phone for hours a day reading a book, playing on a nintendo ds, crocheting, knitting, reading magazines, playing cards. yeah what a horrible company.

I just figured I would reply to this incase anyone got on here and actually believed either of these two. I am an employee of Citi and it is am amazing company. The JOB sucks (taking calls all day) but the company gives the greatest benefits and compensation period. They give so much back to the community as well, but let's take a look at each of your guy's arguments. (ps: I'm not a corporate honcho or anything, just lowest level bill collector) NA-from AZ says "They cheat their employees out of hundreds of dollars a month on their paychecks (and rest of first paragraph)" -- I never heard of this. Let's do a little count of how much time Citi gives each employee from the beginning. (rough count, if anything, it's more than this) 1. 7 vacation days 2. 5 floating holidays 3. 48 hours worth of sick time to be used whenever Somewhere around hmmm.... 18 days off? Wow, how selfish of them! I also find it funny that people believe anything such as discrimination against single parents. This is really a benefit to Citi. (note sarcasm) They give away thousands of hours to people who only work for 2-3 months yet use all 18 days, and in an attempt to catch it up, discriminate against single parents. Oh yes this is really adding up......what else.... 2nd paragraph -- sorry, I don't have a rebuttal to pure nonsense. Largest financial institution in the world "training" associates to lie to the customers. Why would they do this? I went through training as well and it certainly was not a part of the curriculum. 3rd paragraph - sexist boss, yes so lets blame Citi, that's like me sitting next to you and saying Citi only employs ignorant people. So let's blame Citi for your ignorance. well that sums it up for miss "NA"; let's take a look at the other employee who decided to add to the nonsense Charlene- let's see what debunking we can do here... 1st paragraph...wait its one big glob, ok I'll just try and break it up... "while there they said your job does not consist of selling its CUSTOMER SERVICE? - This must have been in the same lesson packet as the "lying to the customer" curriculum. part about the elderly old man -- ok so let's design a computer system that won't increase interest rates on anyone who falls under the description of "elderly". We can just give them separate contracts all together! It'll say "Are you old? Then get a Citi card, you can rack up debt, and not expect to default on your interest rate when you pay late because YOU'RE OLD!" I don't remember a clause on the account "debt only valid until you move into a nursing home, then it's our problem" Now listen to me (critics), I do have heart, trust me I do, but I just can't get over people who think people should get special treatment because of age, race, sex, etc... Creditors don't discriminate when people get the cards, why would they start when all the sudden "oh I'm sorry, I didn't notice you lived in a nursing home! let me erase this balance while you enjoy all the stuff you bought? Not to mention that Citi and all creditors offer payment arrangements for anyone in this circumstance. And there is always credit counseling or a chance for settlement, etc.... oh and Charlene, CITI, not CITY. Didn't you work there?

#11UPDATE EX-employee responds

I worked for this company and let me tell you this company is so full of cons, cheats and liars that i didnt know that many even exisited. I went to training and while there they said your job does not consist of selling its CUSTOMER SERVICE. help customers with all their problems. Well I graduated from training ang got up stairs to the floor and what a big surprise i got if you dont sell their product you dont have a job NO PROBLEM I did that but what got me is I had a customer call in one day and ELDERLY MAN ( we are supposed to protect them) called me and said honey I need to make a payment so I proceeded and when I pulled up his account he owed more then $12,000 on it READ THIS CLOSELY IF YOU HAVE A GRANDMOTHER,ELDERLY MOTHER,FATHER BROTHER SISTER ANYBODY ELDEERLY I looked and the APR that CITY BANK added to this mans account was 29.99% this is outragious!!!! They did this to this man and he WAS IN A NURSING HOME!!!! THE CONVERSATION WENT LIKE THIS( he wanted to make a payment and I tod him about the CREDIT PROTECTOR that this lying company offers for those of you that dont know what it is let me explain it is a service that is SUPPOSED to protect your credit in cases like his. If he couldnt make payments for any reason which to my own oppion was a good one because of his sistuation this service covers that and the City bank makes the payment for him with no worry to him. But what really made me walk away from that job that day was HE SAID HONEY I DONT NEED THAT THE NURSES HERE ARE TAKING EVERYTHING I HAVE ANYWAY I WONT BE HERE THAT LONG ANYWAYS. THE POINT OF MY STORY IS CITYBANK WAS SUPPOSED TO PROTECT HIM AND NOT GIVE HIM AN OUTRAGOUS APR OF 29.99% AND TAKE THE REST OF WHAT HE HAD THAT THE NURSES WERENT TAKING(BOY I WISHED I KNEW WHAT NURSING HOME HE WAS IN) BUT THEY DIDNT CARE WHO THIS MAN WAS OR WHAT HIS SISTUATION THEY JUST WANTED MONEY AND THEY GOT IT ANYWAY THEY COULD!!!!!!!! I hate this company and the things they do If it was my father they wouldnt have even had a chance. For those of you that think that CITYBANK is a good company because of their furtune 500 company think again i know the truth and I know what they do.
