I have several issues with Citizens bank, my husband and I are excelleant customers with great paying jobs and credit, unfortunatly I do not balance my checkbook monthly. I view my account every day on line and make deposits if necesary.

Last year while vacationing in Aruba we used our debit card several times , I did not have access to a computer to check the balances but was not worried . Not realizing Citizens changed their policy "as a convience to customers" they continued to authorize payments, atm withdrawel and POS purchases even though the money was not in my account. If the money was not there I expeceted my authorization not to be approved or money not to be dispersed from an ATM, I would have used a different account. I incurred several hundred dollars in NSF fees. Citizens told me it was my responsibility to know my balance. I told them I was not aware of this new policy of citizens where it gave me money they I did not have. I was again told it was a policy change as a convience to their customers. I immediatly told them to change my account back to the way it was and not to give me money or authorize anything unless the money is in the account.

Once again just recently I was in Hawaii for 2 weeks , I came back to 587.00 in NSF fees. I went to the bank and asked them what had occurred. Again I was told it was my responsibility, however what I discovered is they changed my Debit card to not allow withdrawels or authorizations but forgot to change my husband. I was furious. They continued to tell me we need to share responsiblity . That was crap it was not my error. So far I was given back 50% of the nsf fees.

Addtionally all consumers should be aware , they also changed the way they deduct NSF fees. Lets say you have a possiblity of 1 checks that could cause an overdraft , here is my example 5check X39 = 195.00 Your balance is 400.00 and you have 5 checks 25.00 , 50.00 , 100.00, 125.00 and 300.00. Here is what they do, they deduct the 195.00 nsf fee first bringing your balance down to 205.00 then they take the largest check of 300.00 , now you are -95.00 so out of 400.00 where 4 checks should have gone through and only one overdraft all five checks bounced. Incredable, I think this is fraud. Im considering a class action suit. I would love an attorney to contact me to lead me in the right direction.
