A little over a year ago, I bought a platform-style bed from City Furniture. I also bought a chest of drawers, a very large wall mirror and a pair of lamps. In the beginning, I couldn't have been happier. The styles were modern with clean lines, and the prices were great. The trouble is the platform-style bed really doesn't hold up, and I can't seem to get City Furniture to care. I've placed more than a dozen calls over the last few weeks to report how the support system is giving way, and they have sent two "technicians" to inspect the problem, but all they did was take a picture of the bed and say there is nothing they can do. I even sat on the bed in different places and got one of the technicians to admit that the mattress drops eight inches where the support is weak. Still they say there's nothing they can do.

I've heard that "nothing they can do" response from every single person I've spoken to at City Furniture in customer service and in the "warranty" department for three weeks. Some warranty! It's like they know there is a problem, but they won't admit to it. It almost feels like they are suggesting I'm making up the problem -- as if I have nothing better to do than call twelve times to get them to fix my bed!

The problem is this type of bed is designed not to need a box springs, which normally supports the mattress. That's how they sold it to me. Unfortunately, the support system started giving way about seven to eight months after purchase. Now there is a pronounced hill in the middle of the bed flanked by two valleys. Just try to sleep on that! I've tried and tried to explain that the bed needs more support, and I even escalated my complaint to the Warranty/Customer Service Manager, Robert. When I spoke with Robert several days ago, I thought I finally had found the one person who both understood what I was saying and had the good sense to do something about it. Unfortunately, nothing has happened.

After filing this Ripoff Report, I intend to file similar reports with the Better Business Bureau as well as Consumer Affairs. Since I assume my complaints will continue to fall on deaf ears, I will have to file a small claims lawsuit, as much as I hate that. What a shame that City Furniture allowed someone who was such a happy REPEAT customer to have his impression of their company turned upside down when all they had to do was fix the problem instead of trying to sweep it under the rug and brush me off. As for their business skills and their understanding of quality-as-a-marketing-strategy, they get an F-.

The customer contacted us regarding his bed. We sent 2 different Repair Companies to his home. They both reported that there was nothing the matter with the bed slats or bed. We continuously offered to exchange the bed slats for the customer to satisfy him, and he repeatedly said that he did not want this. The 3rd Repair Technichian went to his home and added 2 additional slats on 2/16/09. The customer was satisfied with the service. 3/28/09
