I purchased a brand new Carrier A/C system from Clean Air a few years ago for about $7K, and they made a big mistake by invalidating the normal 10 year manufacturer warranty that I should have received from Carrier. They understand what they did, but will not do anything to correct this clear-cut mistake.

Clean Air's business practices already cost me a significant amount of money in repairs (that should have been covered under warranty), and may cost me more in the next few years to come. Further details are below.

Carrier has a little catch in their manufacturer warranty policy that you need to register the product online within 90 days of installation to get the full 10 years warranty. If the registration is not done, the warranty is cut in half to 5 years. Even though registration takes about two minutes on the internet, Clean Air DID NOT register my manufacturer warranty. As a result, I am not eligible for the 10 year warranty on parts that was promised to me at the time of sale, and my warranty was cut in half.

I have asked around with other HVAC companies, and found that it is standard practice for HVAC contractors to register the warranty upon any new install, as the homeowner really has no way of knowing about the requirement. A different local HVAC company commented that registering a warranty is considered to be an essential step with any new installation that they do, and agreed that Clean Air's failure to do so represents industry incompetence.

At year 7 after purchasing my new A/C system from Clean Air, the blower fan in the air handler burnt out. When Clean Air's tech came to my home on 8/2/2017 all of the information about the warranty came to light. However, Clean Air did not take accountability for the fact that the part should/would be covered under a 10 year warranty if they properly did their job at the time of installation. In the tech's presence, I placed a call directly to Carrier, who confirmed that the part would be covered by a 10 year warranty, except for the fact that the warranty was not registered by the installer (Clean Air). The tech discussed these issues with his Service Manager, who took no accountability and seemed to be too scared to speak to me directly, relaying all information through the low-level tech.
