10/26-Installation day: Installer arrives and works the most part of the day installing the cabinets in our business's home office. Once the cabinets were finished being built I realized that the installed cabinets were built incorrectly. The designer that came our to our home a month prior assured us that there would be at most a 4" gap from the wall unit we ordered. After being built the cabinet had a 20" gap from the wall. For this error we paid the entire remaining balance except $251 for negotiating the problem later.

Once the installer departed our home, I noticed that he left a black burn mark on the outside stucco of our home. He had set up his wood saw too close to the house and the motor left a mark that could not be washed off but actually needs to be re-painted at this point.

Going back to examine the cabinet problem, I also noticed that my digital camera left on my desk to import my project photos to my computer was now missing.

I spoke to my wife that night about the three problems and thought it was a better idea not to mention anything to Closet World about the camera since the installer had mentioned to me that he also lived in Oceanside. My concern was if Closet World approached him about the theft, I was uneasy with the fact that he could easily return to our home anytime.

In the meantime, I contacted our sales rep/designer Shideh about the cabinets that were built incorrectly and the black burn mark on our home. We received no response.

After approximately three weeks of persuasion, my wife insisted we notify Closet World of the theft of our camera and she immediately did so to our sales rep/designer Shideh. Shideh only told us that we needed to speak to an installation manager about the problems.

On 11/10/05 we were charged the remaining $251 to our credit card provided to Closet World the day we ordered the cabinets. This charge was absolutely unauthorized as we had only given our credit card number to them over the phone for a deposit and signed no contract that they could charge our credit card at their disclosure.

Now, livid that we had now four problems on our handle at this point I called Closet World again and asked for an installation manager. First I was transferred 3 times and each time I was asked to explain my situation.

Finally, I was transferred to the correct department and was rudely asked my name, who I was and what I was calling about. I explained my problems to person who never identified herself as the installation manager. Her response to me was that I needed to file a police report and a homeowner's insurance claim about the theft of our camera. She took no responsibility that this was an employee of Closet World and that they had allowed this thief to come into our home in the first place. I requested to know the name of the installer and his contractor's number but she refused to disclose this information admittedly.

The only resolution the installation manager offered me was to come out to our home and look at the problem with the cabinets. I explained to her that we would never let Closet World come back to our home again due to the series of problems that we experienced on their last visit. I asked we be credited the $251 back our credit card as it was not only unauthorized but should be a compensation for the cabinets, replacement of the camera and to repaint the burn mark on the stucco. She rudely engaged me in an argument over this request until I finally had to hang up out of frustration.

The only action I could take was to file a dispute with my credit card for the $251. Other than this, we have received no compensation for the problems. I should have first looked at their Better Business Bureau report that shows that they are rated as an F company for their dishonest business practices. Lesson learned.
