My son and 4 unsuspecting roommates all entered Orlando Culinary College in August of 2009.  Each of them were moving to Orlando from other cities or states and didn't know the city or each other.

Collegiate Housing Services sold them the biggest yarn of goods.  Told them they would provide everything - offices onsite - which led my son to believe it was like a dorm on site - no just a regular appt community (nice enough) but like 8 miles away and 3 of the guys had no transportation.

They were also told it was completely furnished - true with all the amenities - well they thought - cable, internet, etc. because the utilities were furnished.

When they arrive it was all okay - but no internet (except in the club house), no cable and utilities were limited - if they went over the alloted $$ they would be charged extra - the alloted amt.  WHO KNEW.

The rules - no overnight guests - not parents, siblings NO-ONE.  No alcohol, drugs etc. well that's fine drugs are illegal, but 3 of these young men were well over the age of 21.

This apt. cost them over $2500/month!!!! The actual complex charged less than $900 per month for the same apt.   THE KICKER - they moved into BED BUGS, yes Bed bugs and they had to bag and tag all their clothing, strip their beds, re-wash every week for 10 weeks!  AND they were never bed bug free.  At this point Collegiate Housing Services decided that trying to take care of the bed bugs they brough in was too expensive and released them from their lease.

I found them another apt - closer to the school; unfurnished and without bed bugs.

I furnished it for under $500.  moved them and they are very happy.

This company prey's on unsuspecting students and parents. Your story is one of many that I have found online when I began searching to see if others had experiences similar to ours. We are currently fighting with CHS regarding astronomical fees after we chose to move our son from their housing due to concern for his safety and well being.

Please share your story on the FB page Collegiate Housing Services Complaints. I can only hope that as more people share their stories a lawyer will take a legal stand and file a class action suit against this company. If not perhaps together we can keep others from suffering the same fate.
