I was checking through my credit report today and saw something unusual. I had missed payments on something and I haven't missed a payment before. I checked to see what it was and kept researching boom, this bank decided to make a fake account under my information. Now, I have never been to Ohio once in my life and I haven't opened up an account with this company before. In fact, this is my first time hearing about them. I'm really aggravated on how this negatively affected my credit score and added to my debt.

Common Sense...

Sorry if this comes off as rude, but seriously...sometimes people just have to use some common sense.

What would be the purpose of a bank to just randomly pick someone out of the blue who has never done business with them and put out a past due debt for $433?  Exactly..Nothing.  So it is probably something else.  My guess is that you haven't even contacted them yet, so perhaps that is the first thing you should do.

As it may be a mistake, where someone transposed a few numbers and it ended up on your report.  But until YOU dispute it either through your Credit Report or try to call them up they have no idea.

Perhaps it is your debt from something like a local store or service(Doctor, Mechanic..etc) who uses them as the creditor.  So you don't recongnize it.

The worst case is that it is something such as a case of Identity Theft.  In this case you have a lot of work ahead of you, but it can be fixed, and be glad that it is only $433 right now.

If it is ID Theft you need to first go to your local police and file a ID Theft report and then contact the Credit Reporting agencies(Equifax, Experian..) and have a Fraud Alert placed on your report.  This will keep additional accounts from getting opened without you knowing.
