Compass Bank ripoff excessive and unreasonable NSF fees San Antonio Texas!!! In the last 30 days almost 1,000.00 NSF fees, stating that ATM card is debit card. I received a letter from the branch banking manager to escalate to customer service because several checks were not deposited by the bank on time and automatic money transfers from business to personal checking were not occuring as should. The manager documented banking errors and I am still having a difficult time getting my NSF money back. I am writing numerous letters and I found that they are members of the Better Business Bureau and that the they are regulated by the Texas Department of Banking!!!

I have an account at Compass, and I wholeheartedly agree with you. The bank manager will usually not give you more than 2 of the fees back, but you can request that the regional office contact you to explain your situation. If you are nice, maybe they'll credit you a few more. But you'll be hard pressed to get them all back. I was in a similar situation, where an account I did NOT authorize pulled funds from my account. So my morning $1.19 coffee at 7-11 turned into a 37.19 cup of coffee every day for 10 days. On the 10th day, I finally received, not a phone call, but a postcard saying that my account was overdrawn. Of course, by that time, too late. Of course, authorization of that account that pulled money is a seperate issue, but only compounded by the ridiculous fees that a mere $1.19 must have cost the bank. (sarcasm) After I explained that $100.00 was wrongfully taken out, they pretty much left me hanging with well over $360.00 in overdraft fees, only a few of them did I receive back. The issue here is: Yes, that was MY money. I did lose my cool during one of the transactions, and told them that since I have free checks for life, I would be ordering one box every week for a year to make up for my losses. And under that same Agreement that gave them the right to swipe $36 bucks each, I can order as many checks as I want. They make great kindling for a campfire or to light a cigarette, or even confetti for a ball game (tho, make sure you get a criss cross cut shredder for that) The only way I could actually account for my spending was to get a copy of Microsoft Money and link up to the bank. That way, I'm notified pretty quick if unauthorized funds are pulled from my account. Their online banking is a little tedious to set up, but once you do, it will save you LOTS of problems. Hope that helps, and believe me brother, I feel your pain!

Horrifying experience at compass bank NSF fees San Antonio, Texas

Between 7/17/2006 and 8/28/2006, I incurred 1,000 for NSF fees by Compass Bank. Like the rest, they claim that my ATM card is a credit card since it has the VISA Logo on it. I read through the terms and conditions of the contract. It is really unclear to me and there needs to be a more detailed explanation as to how they could charge these fees. Each are for $36.00. I called the national banking center and they were no help. They encouraged me to close my accounts with the bank. I am a small business owner and my problems are no fault of my own. Money is set to auto transfer from my business account to my personal account on the 1st and 15th of each month. I requested records of my business accounts and a banking rep was kind enough to send me a print out and I observed in writing that the money did not even leave my account until 7/17/2006 yet on the online PC banking and on the personal banking account statement it states that money was transferred on 8/15/2006. Hence, I am getting numerous fees. So even I spent 2 or 3 dollars five times a day that comes to $300.00 of NSF fees!!! I visited the banking branch in person and I had documentation of two missing checks by compass bank. One was not deposited by the bank for 4 business days (this was not a weekend). They claimed that I did not have the correct account number on it. However, I had to ATM/Debit cards (one for business account and one for personal). ON 8/12/2006, the banking manager did confirm the error on the banks behalf and I do have it in writing and I have a copy of it. On 6/28/2006 they deposited my business check into my personal account and I caught this, called the PC banking center and they immediately told me it was my mistake. Fortunately, I had a copy of the deposit slip and the banking center did confirm that I did in fact deposit this money into my business checking account. Customer service moved this money back and it shows the transfer on my statement, but the bank would not give me a case number of my inquiry and still would not except error. If I did not catch this error, i would be up to 1500 in NSF fees already!!! I found that Compass Bank is a member of the Better Business Bureau and that the Texas Department of Banking could also intervene. They really need a good class action law suit. Are any of you attorneys who might be interested? I'm a business owner and I fortunately have the money to sue alhtough I don't know if it is worth my time. I already joined a federal credit union and opened up new account and I am just waiting for my checks to clear to close down my accounts with Compass. This bank is reallys stupid to mess with business owner because we know a whole hell of a lot of people in business and we tend to be very well networked in the community!!!
