I am writing to back up and support any and all other victims of harassment from this cruel and disrespectful company, Consumer Portfolio Services. It doesn't take very long at all after a payment becomes late for a relentless wave of threatening calls to start being made to the victims themselves. The calls don't stop there. Multiple calls everyday are also made to the work place and to family members that live in different households altogether. With these calls come the divulging of private financial information that should not be discussed with anyone other than the victim of this harassment themselves. The repulsive and threatening tone in which these calls are delivered is disrespectful, humiliating, and at times scary. It needs to be stopped and I would like to be a part of any movement towards putting an end to the way this company disrespects it's account holders. If anyone can give me guidance as to how I can take action against this horrible company myself or can offer any information as to how I can participate in any action against the company already in progress it would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, I took my lumps

Dear Noir, I'm sorry but I do not feel that my response insinuating an employee rebuttal "dilutes" my statements. I am completely fine with your comment that you search the site to avoid rip-offs with various companies, that is the purpose of this site, but, my response is to people who are simply reading various legitimate complaints of mistreatment and give a response of "Pay your bills, you loser!" That is not helpful, nor necessary. Yes, I took my lumps, got caught up, and am not behind with CPS nor any of my other bills. What I am asking for is what is given by multitudes of companies out there, respectful conversation and not hand holding but professionalism. Thank you.

When you play the "employee rebuttal" card you dilute your statements

Pete, Not everyone on this site has either been ripped off or is an employee of a company being reported. Some of us actually peruse this site to get information on current scams, companies coming under scrutiny and the like. This site is the reason that when our family hit some financial challenges about 3 years ago we did NOT refinance our mortgage with Ameriquest Mortgage. This site is the reason that when NCO tried to extort money from our family about a year ago for an account we never had we demanded debt validation and got them off our backs. So, is this a hobby? Maybe...if you call being in the know on personal finances a hobby. Yes, life happens. But when it does, you take your lumps, you clean it up the best you can and you move on. When you whine and complain about a company that "screws" you when you are the one to violate your contract, you do perform a service here. You do let people know about the business practices of a company...but to expect replies that say, "aw, you poor baby" is really unrealistic.

"To JusTruth and Others"

To JusTruth and others that have responded, it is like this: Everybody that has placed a complaint against CPS on this platform had to look up the business and do a search and give the required information to discuss a ripoff. I feel that if you and others on here are taking the time to read complaints lodged specifically against CPS, you are affiliated with them somehow, a current employee or something. Or as the other gentleman mentioned he is another creditor of some sort. Why then do you feel the need to log in, give info, just to tear people down? Unfortunately in the creditor industry the average joe develops a large ego. Day in and day out, they are calling people to have them pay their bills. Circumstances happen to the best of us, including those same folks that call and harass people which is what we(this includes me) are saying. I am college educated, I work over forty hours a week with on-call, my husband is also a social worker and works 80 hours a week. We pay a mortage, we fill our vehicles with gas, we pay our bills. This is the difference, now listen closely, LIFE HAPPENS! I am a hard working, moral person. Yes, I have struggled to clean up my credit that is why I have a loan with CPS but for the other vehicle I was recently able to obtain one through Wells Fargo because my credit has improved significantly. When the car had some very expensive unexpected repairs, and is no longer under warranty, we got slightly behind. Gasp!! CPS has been less than willing to work with us, and yes I do answer their calls, but when they are calling, at work, when I am working, I will not talk with them. They berate, they belittle, they pretend to be other people. Oh, I give repsect but when they continually yell when I am being silent, they are not being spoken to. So, it may make yourself feel better to search the web for people who are legitimately stressed and pass judgement, but I suggest you get a hobby. Thank you.

But what if the loan is paid off

You make a valid point, yes to get CPS off your back pay off your loan....Well guess what I did pay off my loan...I paid my last car payment in May 2008, never missed a payment, never once late. In fact I actually thought I over paid by one month. I got a phone call in June regarding my January payment not being made and I informed the agent that it most certainly was. I went home checked and confirmed all bank statements from January through May and all payments showed being withdrawn from my bank account. I went onto the Truepay account and confirmed payment, even did a conference call with Truepay and they confirmed timely receipt of payment. Then CPS came back and told me that I still owe them a payment for being late. I confirmed with them that we just verified the payment was not late. I too have been getting six to seven calls a day. I have been threatened, bullied, my personal business shared with friends and collegues. My car even went to repossession for late fees. I spoke with a very nice man who looked at my account and told me that he did not understand because my account said I made 54 payments and my loan was for 54 payments. I was told today that the Vice President of the company reviewed my audit and I owe still owe a January payment. That the matter is with TruePay...funny when you google TruePay to call them you get CPS in California. I was told to call my friends and ask them for money to shut my mouth. I have actually called the Vice President of the company and shared with his secretary that I have been humiliated and I want a call back and it has been three days and no call. I have contacted the Better Business Bureau and Federal Trade Commission, apparently there are almost 300 complaints against CPS in the past year and they only responed to 25 complaints. Now who is wrong.

the easiest way to get rid of CPS

#6Consumer Comment

Simon, the easiest way is simple. Pay off your loan, Pay it up to date (you must be avoiding calls and behind if you are being tracked down), or Refinance the loan. I am amazed at how people who are behind (claiming hardship, med issues, etc) are quick to file a suit against the company that loaned them money after they bootlegged another company. and where is the lawyers fees coming from, you cant even make a monthly payment on time. CPS is a 2nd chance loan company, meaning you had bad credit, needed a ride, got the ride, dealership got paid, now you have every excuse not to pay or call them back. And if that is not the case, it should be no prob refinancing with a better company. Finally, you have to give respect to get it. you should respect the company enough to callback and make arrangments. in life there are no free "rides". even though you and the fellow plantiffs think there are.
