CIC Credit Monitor Misleading Web Service for "Free" Credit Report Rip-off deceptive company Orange California
Like many others who have reported to this web company, I too attemtped to view my credit report online. You go to consumerinfo.com, click on "Free Credit Report," fill out the information, and then they take you to through an "authentication process."
I did not know the answers to one or more of the questions, so I was unable to view my credit report online. I opted for something where they send you a passcode through the mail. This passcode allegedly allows you to view your credit report at another time.
At no time did I read that I was signing up for anything but a credit monitoring service that is free for 30 days and includes a free credit report.
I have called my bank card company and disputed the charge of $39.95. I spoke with Tammy, a CIC supervisor, and she stated that my only option was to write their consumer relations department.
Beware of credit report services. It is better to simply order a credit report from Transunion, Equifax, or Experian. They usually charge $10 or so and it is much less a hassle dealing with them.
