The gentleman who suggested to avoid being "ripped off" always buy from a private individual -- this is the sure way to get ripped off. I work with used car dealerships, and just as any businesses there are good ones and bad ones. There are laws to protect consumers IF they buy from a dealer, if you buy from an individual you are pretty much out of luck. My job is to help educate used car dealers and contrary to popular belief, many used car dealers are very professional and educated. Rule of thumb is to look for a dealership that belongs to their industry trade association, that is a sign that they care about being informed, educated and professional and most associations such as ours require that their members follow a code of ethics. If you run across a shady salesman, one who maybe misrepresents a car or that type of thing, take the time to call the dealer himself, a lot of times they will be more than helpful as they can be held legally responsible for promises and representations their salespeople make. For more information on how to purchase a good used car from a reputable dealer visit www.kiada.com By the way I am in no way implying that Country Hill Motors is not a good dealership, in fact we have never had a complaint against them since I have worked at my job (going on 6 years), and believe me I get calls whenever there are problems with used car dealers in Kansas.

This type of trash always gets run through a wholesale auction somewhere. The theft/stripped/rebuilds. The mechanical mountain-O-repairs. The flood damaged rebuilds. The cheapie engine swaps. The rollover wrecks. Backyard mechanics fix these junkers with bondo and bailing wire. Plus, whatever junkyard parts they can scrape together. Just enough to start and run in the auction. And, that's how they end up on this trash dealer's lot. Typically, they carry the paper only until they can find a buyer for your loan. After that, you own it. Argue with the finance company that bought your loan. If you are ever desperate enough to need a car that bad that you actually consider a dealer, at least have the common sense to expect the worst. Give em $500 a unit. I don't care whether it's a corvette or a navigator. If it's on a used car lot, it can't be worth more than $500. Tops. Why do you think they located their business on a country hill? That's how they get most of their cars started. Coasting down the hill. By the way, all dealers do this exact same thing. The only way to avoid this scam is to buy from a private party.

If you are looking for our web site and stumble across this page in your search, read it carefully. I will let you know our procedure and how this actually happened. Country Hill has successfully sold over 21,000 car over the last 21 years. This customer new the the air bag had been taken out of the car as she had been told. This particular SUV was a Yellow Range Rover. These cars are known to have certain mechanical issues that are expensive to maintain. There are Multiple ASE certified places to have them maintained but as with all cars certain problems are best fixed at an authorized dealer. We do encourage if customer like to take any car they are interested in to have a mechanical inspection. Mechanical work is often negotiated into your deal (I.E. your mechanic says a car needs a new Timing belt and water pump and we install it to make the deal). We do run a small staff to keep the overhead down and the prices of our cars low. The reason nobody went to the inspection of the vehicle is we cannot have anyone gone for the period of time it takes to do the inspection. I can tell you that gas is expensive but we will make sure there is enough gas to get where you are going. It may be a mile to where the car was going. We do not hide anything when selling a car. Most of our customers apreciate seeing the way the cars look when they are traded in. I can say that a car out of oil and transmission fluid do not usally run or move?? Many times we will offer to do repairs if it will make a customer happy and they want the car. We will pull carfax on any car that we are offering for sale at no charge to our customer. We have been offering friendly customer service for 21 years and this customer will tell you that we did the right things like letting her take the vehicle for a mechanical inspection, pulling a carfax and offering to fix whatever to make her happy. We are interested in honest and quality services. With over 100 retail cars in stock and customers that tell their friends and family about us, don't let this one negative person ruin your opportunity to do business with us. We offer low cost alternatives to the public and sell for wholesale prices. Thanks in advance, Matt Maguire Genral Manager www.countryhill.com 913-238-5126

This post probably spells it out in black and white better than any I've read here, the truth about buying a used car , be it from a used car dealer or a new car dealer. The old addage, if his lips are moving, chances are he is lying. Buying a vehicle is usually the second largest purchase most people ever do, and as the radio guy said" they spends more time researching what movie is playing and where then they do buying a car".
