I noticed that I had been billed on my credit card for monthly credit monitoring by CreditReport.com. The problem is that I didn't sign up for this service. I called the customer service number and was told that since I didn't have a cancellation number, they wouldn't refund my money. I can't have a cancellation number when I didn't sign-up for the service in the first place! I asked to be transferred to a supervisor. The supervisor refused to give me the name, telephone number, or location of their corporate offices. The supervisor refused to transfer me to "her" supervisor or give me the name of anyone who supervises her! She said the only thing I could do was file a complaint to a post office box number in Canoga Park, CA.

When I insisted appropriate information, the supervisor hung up on me. I then did a search of the internet, but could not find a corporate telephone number. I started calling any number I found associated with Mighty Net, Inc. or CreditReport.com. A couple phone numbers got me an overseas "customer service" representative, and several had noises of children and domestic sounds in the background. (You have to wonder if the customer service representatives are working out of their homes!).

Eventually my attorney got involved. After the attorney threatened to start filing police reports for credit card fraud, and that she would begin looking for other people who've been ripped off so she could file a class-action lawsuit, well, suddenly she got transferred to a "Manager." The manager informed her that there was no physical location for a corporate headquarters and they were not allowed to give out the name of the owners or other management employees. She informed the attorney that the company had several "locations" and did not work out of any particular place.

Under a promise from my attorney that police reports and a fraud investigation would begin immediately, the "manager" then said that she could refund the money. I'm still waiting.

Now, think about this. Here's a company who has your credit card numbers, your social security numbers, charges you monthly for a service, but doesn't have an actual CEO of record, doesn't have a physical address for corporate offices or where they can receive mail that isn't a P.O. Box. Do you want to do business with these people? Sleazy, and a good idea to avoid them at all costs! And, I'm still wondering how I got signed up for their service in the first place! Hmmmm!

Steps taken so far or in the very near future: 1. Credit card canceled. 2. Called the Big 3 credit bureaus to put a fraud alert on my credit file. They are required to send a copy of your credit report, free, to make sure nothing is amiss there (like this company reporting you to the credit bureaus). 3. Fraud investigation started by credit card company. (Fraud affidavit being mailed to me.) 4. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, www.labbb.org 5. Police report for credit card fraud will be filed if money is not refunded to credit card company within 3 business days. Will call the Canoga, Park Police Department.
