Creditreport.com Cancellation problems Internet
I signed up for one of those credit report services at www.creditreport.com with a 30 day free trial. After deciding I didn't want the service, I cancelled on day 24. They tried their best to talk me into staying, but eventually they gave me a cancellation number. Of course, they billed me for the 11.95 per month anyway for two months (I missed it on my credit card statement the first month, but caught it the second month). When I called to complain, I was told that the cancellation number I had been given was not valid and that there was nothing they could or would do. When I asked to speak with a manager, I was told that there was no manager in at the moment, but I could be put into his voice mail. When I asked to be put into his voice mail, I received a message saying his mailbox was full, at which point I was disconnected.
Because I had anticipated something like this, I even wrote down the date and time of the original cancellation call. That didn't do any good as they said it was my problem that the cancellation number was wrong and that I must have gotten it from a different company (yeah, right!).
It sounds like a classic scam to me. Thankfully, my credit card company (American Express) quickly agreed to refund the past charges, prevent any future charges and contact the company to get their money back. I hope they're successful.
I'm sure there are reputable companies providing credit reports and credit reporting services to consumers. CreditReport.com is NOT one of them.
