I was contacted today by a man with a strong Indian accent said his name was Jay Smith with Criminal Justice Legal Law Service. I was told that I would be charged with fraud and 2 other counts. That court papers were going to be filed in Indiana and I would be served at work as well. He had current work info but not current address. Apparently the payday loan I had was from over 3 years ago. Because I was vulnerable to current outstanding loans I had I thought this was a more current one I had neglected to settle myself. He told me he had to read all this legal stuff to me but I was not to interrupt him. I asked if he was an attorney he said NO. I asked why I hadn't been contacted sooner by email or mail before it had gotten this far out of hand. He said info was emailed to me and sent but to an old address (one I hadn't lived at for 2 years). I was in tears on the phone thinking I was going to go to jail. I was told the outstanding amount due was $2000 but if this went to court I would be responsible for over $5000 of court costs and other fines imposed upon me. I told him of my misfortune of bankruptcy, short sale of my house and marriage separation. He then said so you are a good person with no other outstanding judgments or legal action against you? I said NO I never meant to defraud anyone just bad dumb luck and poor decisions. He then said this is what I can do for you....I will pass your file on to the legal team and see what we can do but if you can pay $2000 today we can avoid this being file in court.I was beside myself I offered a credit card but he said can I do a withdrawal and maybe that could work. Well my credit card doesn't allow that much of a withdrawal and thank goodness. I told him I had to confess all this to my husband to see how I could get the money. He gave me 5 minutes and then I was to call him back. The more I thought about this the more I questioned his motives. Thankfully when I was home I googled this company and low and behold I found this website. He has since called me 4 times and left a message stating that he could no longer help me and my case was being forwarded to continue prosecution.
