Thank you, James, for the information you provided. We also had a horrible experience with Cross America and I will do everything in my power to fight it.
I have also filed complaints with the FMCSA, DOT, Inspector General, and state attorney general of TX. I have now left a message for Bill Nicol and appreciate your assist.
We recieved a quote of $1200 to move a small amount of items from Dallas, TX to Gardiner, ME. We ended up paying $3810 with multiple threats that our goods would be held hostage. Also, our delivery was 2 weeks late. We too are extremely suspicious of the weight they calculated.
There is definitely something fishy going on with this company. I asked to speak with Jaycob Krii today (I spoke with him last week) and was told by Hara Johnson that Jaycob was recently killed in an automobile accident. Funny but Hara sounded just like Jaycob.
Thanks again. I wish I had read your comments before we agreed to use them.

http://justice.dentoncounty.com/isapi/UVlink.isa/dentonco/WEBSERV/JPCivilSearch?action%253Dview%26track%253D166757 Very recent here (April 2009) and a default judgment against Krii. It's also interesting to know that they are operating out of the following address: 8910 Lawndale Ste. C Houston, TX 77012 If you research this address, it leads you back to their former operation called 'Move Improve Relocations.' Every other address that they use are invalid.

More info...according to Progressive Insurance, Jaycob told them that Enterprise Relocation Systems (DOT 1471336) to move my HHG from Houston to Denver. According to the FMCSA (and the insurance carrier confirmed) that they do not have insurance coverage. I'm waiting on a call back from the manager at Enterprise to try and confirm this.

In addition to filing with the attorney general, BBB, etc. Call the Surface Transportation Board - Bill Nicol @ 202-245-0285. I am currently working with him with the problems that I've had. Don't give up! Jaycob (Yaakov) has done this to many people...he'll keep doing it if we let him. Keep calling him and calling him. I refuse to give up until this matter is solved.

I also filed a complaint with the Texas Attorney General's office. I would suggest doing the same with all agencies (US DOT, TX DOT, BBB, etc.)!

James, Jacob is pulling the EXACT same scheme on me. He has held my shipment hostage since 6/24/09. He personally came to my house and was presented ALL my belongings, which were packed, and gave me a quote. Four days after he picked up my stuff, he called and doubled the price, added a 9% fuel surcharge, and $400 for packing. I refuse to let him get away with this. I sent him a certified letter giving him 10 days to honor the agreement or I will pursue legal action. I plan on filing my lawsuit very shortly, in addition to filing claims with the DOT, BBB, and AMSA.

1) Moved from Dallas, TX to Denver 2) Inventory sheet - we had several other in-home estimates, all assuming less weight than their estimate 3) Weigh tickets were handed to me by the driver 4) Picked up my items in a rented 26' Penske truck 5) An entertainment center built by my dad was damaged, various other wooden items, most of which are unrepairable On the issue of the fuel surcharge, I understand that this may be standard practice. But when Tony guarantees that there will be no additional fees and then an extra $500 is thrown on at the end, that's an extra fee not included in the estimate. Weigh tickets - I was given two tickets, neither of which were signed: Ticket 1: Steer axle - 260 lb Drive axle - 8480 lb Trailer axle - 2560 lb Gross weight - 11300 lb Ticket 2: Steer axle - 7300 lb Drive axle - 13860 lb Trailer axle - 3580 lb Gross weight - 24740 lb

I'm currently in the same situation with this company. They gave me an on-site (thus binding) rate of $1300, and are now asking for $2600. They also threw in $400 for packing supplies and a 9% fuel surcharge - neither of which I was told about nor written in the quote (Tony also assured me there would be no fees for packing/unpacking as well). Right now they are holding my stuff, and I'm not sure what to do... How did you get your stuff James?

James - please add the following information: 1. You moved to Denver. Where did you move from? 2. What was the estimate for 8,750 lbs based on? Visual? Inventory sheet? 3. Were there weight tickets? How did they certify the weight? 4. What sort of truck did they use to pick up your items? 5. How much damage was caused? On the surface, it doesn't sound like much of a rip off if in fact the real weight of your shipment turned out to be 12,750 lbs - more or less. I can tell you given the time it took to do everything, I suspect 12,750 lbs may be correct and there is not a rip off here. Depending on where you shipped from....$5,100 is not a ripoff for moving that much weight. In addition, fuel surcharge is not a rip off and also is standard in the industry. If you can come back with some answers to these 5 questions, we can really determine whether this is a ripoff or not. On the surface from what you posted, if there truly was no damage (or even a little) this was not a rip off. Moving is not an inexpensive venture and the likelihood is that the real price for your move is really what you ended up paying in this case....
