D Bennett Don Bennett, D Bennett Construction, Ripped off by a roofer Plymouth, Michigan
I was a roofer for Don Bennett along with a few others. We did work all over the metro Detroit area. He is well connected and we did work for some very wealthy people. Everything seemed good for the first few weeks. After being there for a few weeks I noticed we were not doing the work the owners were told we would do. We took many short cuts and used sub-standard material.
On breaks us roofers would talk about the jobs we have done together and how we were all asked (told) to skip things and to cover things up. We knew this was not right and I asked if anyone has ever spoke up. They said when they did Don would blow up and start throwing things.
We did a job in Detroit that was a mess when we were done. I knew the roof would leak on the first heavy rain and most surely in the winter. I said something about the quality of our work and that we should be doing a better job. He snapped on me within seconds and began yelling at me telling me I didn't know what I was doing anyways.
After working for Don Bennett a couple more jobs I asked to get paid and he said he was broke and no money to give me. He said if I helped him with the next roof he would have enough money to pay me for all the work. After that job he again said he was not going to pay me and that I was fired.
He owes me over $2000.00 for my labor on the jobs I did. I know I will never see a dime. I now do roofing on my own and by talking with suppliers in the area I have found out he has done this to many roofers and his clients. I guess as long as the money rolls in for the wholesalers they will keep referring him and he will keep doing this to others.
