**Do not but from Fred and Susan Rentfrow at Dachsue Kennels!**

Early 2007 I was referred to Dachsue Kennels (by a now out of business, tyro dachshund dealer in Spotsylvania, Va) to purchase a dachshund puppy as a companion to the one I already had at the time.

I viewed Dachsues website which was quite inviting and professional looking. I noticed a long haired black & tan silver dapple male that he had for sale that appeared to be in the neighborhood of 6 months old.

When I phoned Fred Rentfrow to inquire about the puppy Fred presented himself as a Good Ole Boy kinda nice guy which at the time I appreciated.

Fred stated that the pup in question was the last of his litter and needed a home because he was getting older. Fred basically offered me the puppy for little more than AKC registration fees AND a computer chip Identification Device that he would inject / implant into the puppy. Fred was adamant about the inclusion of the I.D. chip so, reluctantly, I agreed.

Fred then informed me that for an additional $100.00 he could have the puppy delivered to me by way of a friend of his that traveled the state of Virginia often. Sounding like a good idea, I accepted his offer for delivery and settled on a date & time to meet.

Freds delivery man ended up being a local farmer buddy of his that hauled goats to auction from down state Virginia to someplace in Pennsylvania. The delivery guy missed the delivery date by 24 hours!

When I was finally successful with meeting up with the goat farmer (24 hours later) he had the puppy stashed in a very small cat carrier that was stowed behind the seat of his filthy pick up truck. The cat carrier containing the puppy had several layers of old smelly jackets and coveralls piled on top of it providing NO ventilation at all to the puppy.

When I opened the cat carrier to let the puppy out he was covered with his own urine and feces and scared to death!

When I got the puppy home and cleaned up, it was clear to me by way of his behavior that he had been kept in a crate his entire life! He had NO concept of being outside even to the point that he didnt know what rain was!

The puppy was approaching seven months old and had never been outside in the rain. The puppy exhibited no evidence what so ever of being acclimated to human touch or love. He also demonstrated no social skills as it applies to other dogs.

I am glad to say that the dog is now 3 years old and is healthy well and I love him dearly. I still struggle with him walking him in the rain though. As well, he never plays with any type of dog toys he simply was not afforded the chance to develop properly as a youngster perpetually housed in a small crate.

This experience has taught me a lifetimes worth of lessons pertaining to purchasing a puppy. Do Not make the same mistakes that I did!! and DO NOT deal with Dachsue Kennels (Period).
