Watchdog says dead people are listed as having voted

DALLAS,Texas Are dead people voting in Dallas County?

That's the disturbing allegation from a group that has been poring over the voting rolls.

Their study found thousands still eligible to vote, even though they've passed on, and evidence that someone has been voting in their names.

Matt Pulle is part of Texas Watchdog, a group that has spent two months searching for dead people who are still registered -- and maybe still voting.

"We found 6,000 voters who are deceased who are actually on the rolls," he said. "Of those 6,000, 40 of them are listed as having voted."

The Houston-based group posted its findings on the Internet. They compared the federal database of deceased citizens to current voter rolls, then wrote detailed stories of two Dallasites, including interviews with their loved ones.

"Two of the folks we featured in our story, the records show someone voted in person, in their name, on Election Day," said Texas Watchdog's Lee Ann O'Neal.

But Dallas County officials don't believe any dead people have voted in Dallas.

Elections supervisor Bruce Sherbet looked up the two names detailed by the watchdogs.

"Howard Ingram stamped 'Voted' -- you can see they marked through the stamp," Sherbet said. "It was a mistake."

He said he's convinced the stamp was a mistake because voters are required to sign in, and no one using either dead man's name signed the log book.

"I can tell you with 100 percent certainty, no one signed in those voters," Sherbet said. "It was a clerical error."

Pulle said election officials shouldn't have let this happen.

"I understand in a big county like Dallas you'll have glitches and clerical errors, but this is something they should have spotted before we did."

THEY DID NOT ADVISE WHICH PARTY THE GHOSTS SUPPORTED AND AFTER HALLOWEEN IT MIGHT BE DIFFICULT TO FIND OUT.
