Always know the laws in your state. They can, in fact, call a relative or neighbor. However, in New York, it can only be done ONCE. Further they can NOT state what it is for or about. They can only leave a message for you to call them and give the neighbor or family member the phone number. I'm a citizen who has been throught this too.

Mrs. Hawks called me again today. She said it was legal for her to call anyone she wanted to about me. She also informed me that I had 2 brand new vehicles. She refused to tell me what they were. Wish I knew what they were too. She wanted to know what I had used my credit card for. I told her groceries, diabetic and heart prescriptions for my husband, medical bills, etc and also some building materials for a house which I do not own but in which I will be paid back when it is sold. She told me it did not matter if the house was not mine they would take it and that it was fraud for me to buy the building materials. Now she wants a house and 25 acres which I have put $10,000 into plus I should sell my 2 brand new vehicles which I have never seen before and give her that money. I also told her that I had kept up with payments on card until last February when the bank stocks fell which is what I was living on. She told me to get a job in my town. I told her it had a post office and 2 country stores. She told me again that I was not telling the truth that my town had plenty of fast food restaurants and grocery stores. I told her that I couldn't find them here. She informed me that she had come from New York to this so called big town and knew it had plenty of restaurants and stores. The population is not even listed on atlas. I am tired of being called a liar when I am not.
