Do not make any reservations at this hotel for any reason. This hotel was booked for only one night, which was supposed to be for a family get-together. Due to a heavy snowstorm in SD on the day we were to travel to hotel, we were unable to fulfill our reservations. Hotel required 24 hours notice to cancel reservation. Since we did not arrive, we were considered no call, no shows and each room was charged to me in the amount of $51.48 for a total of $154.44.

Contacted the hotel to request charges reversed from credit card and the manager was extremely rude and would not under any circumstances refund any money. Basically, the weather prevented us from showing up, but it doesn't mean that she had to give a refund because we didn't get there. Her attitude was that it was our problem.

As a former travel agent pre-911, I can tell you that this hotel double dipped. They charged us for not arriving and resold the very same rooms to other travelers trapped in the area because of the weather. This is not an uncommon practice. Hotels do this on a regular basis, even if you have reservations, they will tell you that your travel agent or whoever booked your room cancelled it, leaving you the traveler with no other option but to pay a higher price, or find another place to stay.

Than, if you try to dispute the charges, they avoid you all together and hope that it will get shoved out of sight and they won't have to deal with it. They are unwilling to give you a written reason why your dispute is not being taken care of, but it didn't take them very long to send you your invoice with your credit card charged. That's the only written acknowledgement you will get.

Word to the wise, stay away from Days Inn all together. They are not as name friendly as their image tries to convey. It's just a name, but not one worth receiving any more money from another traveler.

Do you live in such a redneck hick a billy backwoods town that there are NO phones? You could have called and cancelled had you of (even if it was too late per the 24 hour policy which you admit you knew about) the manager would have been a bit more willing to work with you.

Huhhhhhhhhhhh What we do when we go to upscale hotels like in las vegas. You are out of luck. No hotel/motel will let you go without paying no show charges.

No problems at Days Inns

We've stayed often at Days Inns in the eastern and southern United States and in Canada and have never experienced any problems with billing. In fact, all the ones we've used have been very good; staff have been pleasant and pretty helpful for the most part. In response to the original complaint, since you didn't take the time to make a phone call when it became apparent that you wouldn't make the bookings, the fault is yours. Since you say you are former travel agent, you should already be aware of policies like this. I can't think of a single hotel chain we've used that doesn't bill you for a no-show. When you book a hotel, you have to give a credit card number...why? In case you don't show up. Most hotels have this policy - it's fairly standard. This isn't really my idea of a valid complaint. It wasn't the hotel's fault that you couldn't make the reservation...unless of course it states in their policy that you don't have to pay for the room if the weather detains you. Which is doubtful. In this case, I hope your credit card company does not refund you the fees.

It's not just non-cancellations they over-charge for!

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at the Days Inn in Laredo last week when our truck broke down. Before going to the Days Inn I called to see if they allowed pets explaining to the girl we have a yorkie (5 lbs) and a little shiatzu (6 lbs) traveling with us. I was told the room would be 59.00 plus 10.00 for the dogs. Upon check-out I received a reciept for 68.35 for the 1 night room fee. I assumed this meant the 10.00 for the dogs was a deposit. Few days later I happened to check my credit card charges and found 4 charges from Days Inn. 68.35 40.00 20.00 20.00 for a total of 148.35. I called Days Inn and was told I was suppose to be charged a fee for the dogs of 10.00 each. I explained that 10 + 10 did not add up to 80.00 that was charged. The girl said she would have to call me back. Have called two more times now and still each time I was told they would have to call me back. Guess I am going to have to dispute it with my card company. Will never stay at a Days Inn again anywhere!

You didn't cancel the rooms before the 24 hour cancellation period. How is this the hotels fault? I am sure you saw the weather and saw it was going to be bad. You could have cancelled in time. Did you spend a week as a travel agent? For all you know the rooms you booked stayed empty. What drives me nuts are the customers who think everyone should serve them. I would put this complaint in that list.
