During the August 2005 semester, we (students) only attended classes for two days before Hurricane Katrina engulfed the city. Even though the college was shut down because it suffered damages, the loan from the lender was still electronically processed(sent) to the college.

I called the lender and I was informed that the loan was sent to the college and the college had not returned the funds to them( the lender). I was also informed that I was responsible for the loans. After calling and visiting the financial aid office at the college I was told that the college has to wait on the Federal government to approve the return of the loans.

The Federal Government did'nt need to approve the issuance of the loans, so I feel that the Federal government does not need to give the approval to return the loans. There is a chance that other students are going through the same thing that I am.

The college has now reopened and 7 months later they(Delgado) should have returned the funds to the lender.

I believe that I should not be held responsible for the loan because I only attended class for two days and I don't have the money nor did I ever receive any money from the loan agency or Delgado Community college. I believe that Delgado should return the money to the lending agency or offer me a tuition-free semester at the college.

I do not want this to reflect upon my credit report even though it is on there, because I want to and intend on finishing my education and building a house one day. I believe that the college is trying to avoid returning the funds.
