Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I was introduce to have DR Weiss partner up to build a home for us to del and split profits. Weiss completely hi-jacked to process, got a construction loan, which seemed like a good idea to me at the time, and said he would build the entire house with all of his sub-contractors in 10 months.
My responsibility was to clean the job site and make sure contractors completed what Weiss assigned them to do. This is documented.
Purchasing the home on 7-1-2005 the foundation was poured by Sept and lumber sat in the yard for over 2 months. Every time I called and asked whats going on I was told the framer was coming. Finally, in November, I was asked if I had a framer to build the house? I located one and the framing started 2 days later, again, all documented.
This repeated itself, one and over. I ended up getting the excavator, framer, the drywall, the insulation, the sewer and water, brick layer and stone mason. Plus, many bids that we didn't use.
The home was actually sold in April of 2008, just shy of 3 years. He'll blame the market, but the truth is he worked at a snails pace, which caused us to miss the good market and built a sub-standard home in Elmhurst. Weiss used high end railings and Amish cabinets, but skimped on plastic shower pans, and cheap bathroom acrylic countertops? The Elmhurst agents laughed at how he built the house. His sense if style if awful.
In the building boom a guy like him could build a shack and sell it - the market passed him by and he was not qualified to learn how to adapt.
Slow, slow, and slower is how Weiss works. I shoveled snow, mowed the lawn, did open house myself (I am not a realtor) and was not allowed to be at the closing. Weiss claimed I owed him $100,000 by the time the house was sold. My investment of $30,000 gone, my hundreds of hours, not paid for.
What do i get in return? A lawsuit from him for $200,000, which I am currently defending.
