Dennis Talbot, PCI-West, Chris Lorentz, Laura Lorentz Lies, Threats, Intimidation. The Mafia? No, PCI-West Dennis Talbot! Sandy Utah
It started with our horrible experience with the "trainers" of this company, Chris and Laura Lorentz. The lies, the intimidation, being forced to work around the clock or be given no work at all. Our experience was telling us this was a company that was unethical, uncaring and, in our opinion, predatory of small contractors in what many analysts in the media are calling a full blown recession.
After over a week of less than two hours of sleep where we were being called every hour on the hour (sometimes more often), we put our feet down and said, "ENOUGH!" It is our opinion that this reason, the refusing to continue to put up with what we saw as abusive behavior on the part of these "trainers", was why we were effectively fired by him. We turned off the phones and got the first full nights sleep in longer than we could remember since starting to work for this company.
It was our belief that the owner of the company, Dennis Talbot, was not the same type of personality. We just figured he didn't know about the heavy drinking of Chris Lorentz. That he didn't know that he would hold a "business meeting" in his home and start using words that African Americans and the Gay Community would find offensive and demeaning. We also felt as though we had contributed to the problem by not quitting the night these things happened. By maintaining our silence, had we somehow given the impression that we felt the same?
We needed a means of supporting ourselves. We had sunk a great deal of money in to the business and had been promised great returns... $17,000 a month if Chris Lorentz were to be believed. We believed that we merely had to "suffer through" Chris Lorentz, go straight to the company and begin to make at least enough to pay our bills and have enough left over to be allowed to breathe. We were smart enough to recognize the obvious exaggeration of how much money was to be made.
Dennis Talbot scheduled a conference call after we were effectively fired that night. He wanted to work things out. We had sent him an e-mail detailing why we would no longer work for Chris Lorentz. We made it clear that his bragging about carrying loaded weapons and being all powerful within the company weren't things that made working for or with him impossible.
We were brought straight to the company, but we were told by both Chris Lorentz and Dennis Talbot that we would still need to work with Chris since he is in charge of Quality Control. Perhaps, in hind sight, that was the biggest red flag of all. Here we just had this major conflict with this man and yet our work would be subject to his scrutiny. We justified it by believing that if Chris pulled any stunts the company would see through it and that in itself would be a deterrent.
It was our opinion that we were too naive. Chris started by twisting phone calls. He said we agreed to things that we hadn't. He offered us a huge job knowing, since he hadn't paid us yet, that we didn't have the funds for such an undertaking. No matter what we did we looked bad. Refuse the job and we were refusing income. Accept the job and we would not be able to complete the work order.
Then the "true colors" of the company and Dennis Talbot started to show. In our opinion, the company began to set us up for failure. We started to see that Chris did so well with PCI-West because he and Dennis were cut from the same cloth. It became our opinion that they were both hot headed, big mouthed and quick with threats and attempted intimidation.
It was not a surprise, in fact it was even something of a relief, when Dennis shot off an e-mail stating we were terminated. We had begun reaching out to other contractors and sharing our experiences with the company and both men. It should have ended there. All parties could go their own way.
So why is it that we are still being harassed, threatened and lied about by Dennis Talbot? We believe it is because in sharing our experiences, other small contractors (especially those just starting out) will be warned about the kind of business and men PCI-West, Dennis Talbot and Chris Lorentz really are.
We think they are angry because sharing our experience and opinion will make it much more difficult for them to take advantage of other people as readily. The lies about good companies being told by Chris Lorentz (an example would be Chris Lorentz verbally saying and then putting into writing that Rocky Mountain Recycling will take fridges with freon without them being certified to do so or requiring a certificate from people bringing them in; which is against federal law) will come to the attention of these other businesses (Having used Rocky Mountain Recycling for years and liking the people there we have already made them aware of what was being said about them so they can take steps to avoid any potential problems from PCI-West contractors trained by Chris Lorentz and Chris Lorentz himself).
However, their fears are not grounds for squelching our rights under The First Amendment. Their mistakes are not grounds for them to make unreasonable demands and threats and say that if we don't bow down to their demands that they will punish us by using the Courts to punish us. It is our opinion that this is further bullying, as is evidenced through the following e-mail from Dennis Talbot:
"...So I guess I should post it to a chat room? Just to let all the people know that have nothing else to do with there time other than to whine about their inadequate lives, and chat about how the world is not fare to me!
I don't need to login to a worthless chat room, every company in this industry will know the facts about how your company operates. Not to mentions hard core proof, web date stamp work orders not complete. Your viable witness will be considered nothing but hearsay in the court room!
I was willing to work with you and get you on the right track and help build your company until I saw the chat room garbage! Let me capitalize the word FORMER REP!
...Some advice, I recommend that you employ legal counsel, I have! This will come down too who can out spend who, and the attorneys get all the $$$, I'm OK with that, are you? I don't mind paying for a lawsuit for what I believe to be intentional damages too PCI's 40+ year good name, you will be named in a lawsuit that no one wins, whether I proved or not! It will cost $$$$ both partys.
...I hereby demand that you publicly retract everything said about PCI or prepare to defend your slanderous false accusations. You and your representatives will be summonsed to 3rd district court in Salt Lake City Utah, at your expense, of course.
I must receive a phone call from; Paul agreeing to these demands.
You have 48 hours to comply! I have been advised not accept any further e-mails from you; I have all the proof I need. All your e-mails are to be directed to PCI legal counsel."
It is our opinion that anything said over the phone is too easy to lie about and twist. We asked for all communication to be in writing. Our experience then turned from one of being subjected to the petulance of a spoiled child throwing a tantrum to that of a bully pushing smaller kids to the ground because they think no one is strong enough to push back.
It is our opinion that we have tried to work with them in honoring a mostly invalid contract. We even hired a neutral third party and invited them to do the same. No response was received so we hired the IT Company to come and validate we no longer had their software. We even had the IT Professional search our personal computers. The contract doesn't even say that we have to provide proof. It just says we have to remove them. But Dennis Talbot demands that Chris Lorentz (the same man we have had numerous difficulties with) come in our place of business and monkey with our computers?? He demands that we allow some unknown quantity to remote into our computers for a supposed verification?? We admit to being naive when this all started; we will not make those same mistakes again.
It is our opinion and experience that dealing with these people and this company is the same as dealing with the mafia. Do what they say, when they say, how they say. They don't like it, they send in the muscle to try and beat you down any way that they can.
It is our earnest opinion that any contractor looking for work run the other way, as quickly as you can, if offered any kind of work from PCI-West in any way shape or form. Our experience has been, and continues to be, one that is not worth the time, effort or money that you could possibly invest. It is our opinion that you will not see any return on that investment.
The fear in the real estate industry used to be predatory lenders. The fear should now be predatory contractors!
