I just recently got dental insurance through my workplace and decided to go get my teeth cleaned. Unfortunately, my normal dentist was not in the network of dentists that my insurance would cover 100% of the cleaning. I decided to go to Delta Dental because they are located right near my work, and I could go there on my lunch break to get my teeth cleaned.

Once i arrived at Dental Plus they had me sit down and fill out a new patient information sheet, which obviously isn't out of the norm. As soon as I got that finished, they started trying to sell me on some oral cancer screening procedure that isn't covered by insurance. I understood that too because I am in sales myself. They were trying to up-sale me. No big deal. The part that made me mad is the fact they told me I have 9 cavities that need to be fixed that would cost over $1700.00! I not an idiot, so I told them I just wanted to get my teeth cleaned. After all, that is all I went there for. After asking someone else, the lady told me they could go ahead and clean my teeth but I needed to sign the work order saying that I understood I would be charged the $1700.00 for the work! I was so angry I left. I decided to go to my normal dentist to get my teeth cleaned and pay the difference. Low and behold, my dentist told me i only had 1 cavity. Delta Dental is a rip off to the insurance companies and the consumers. It's this type of company that causes our insurance premiums to keep going up, and you better believe I will tell everyone about my experience with them.

Maybe your normal dentist is WRONG!

Does your normal dentist diagnosis with a Diag-no-dent or Intra Oral Camera? It would be very difficult for the patient not to see if there were cavities present. The equipment used is very patient friendly. If you are unhappy with the cost of your co-payments, maybe you should seek better insurance.
