As an Attorney and neighbor who witnessed a horribly mismanaged Timberframe project that DeStefano and Chamberlain Engineers were paid to oversee at a private home, I was astonished to see the lack of care, concern, forthright communication and professionalism that they had a Fiduciary duty to perform to a young family trying to renovate and improve their home.
I saw the wrongful erection of an expensive Timberframe and I also witnessed Kevin Chamberlain say nothing to the Homeowners for months, although he KNEW that his "other Client" the Timber Frame Company (South County Post and Beam, whom he clearly was loyal to) were unlawful in their CUPTA violations.
Not a word was said, emailed, or written to the Homeowners. They were betrayed by the very Engineer that they were paying to protect them.
Mr. DeStefano never came to the site. Ever. All phone calls that were attempted to Mr. DeStefano were intercepted by Kevin. All letters with photos asking Mr. DeStefano to visit the TimberFrame, that was badly engineered and paid for in full but needed corrections, were never answered.
As an Attorney, I cannot legally represent the Plaintiff and the Defendant in any one case at the same time.
But this Engineer had no ethical boundaries and took on both the Timber Frame Company (a repeat customer and clearly where their bias was) and they also contracted with the Homeowner to represent them.
The odd part of this was that Kevin Chamberlain never communicated any ideas on how to repair the wrongful installation and engineering. He kept silent.
Only when the Homeowners brought in a new and experienced Custom Builder were they informed by this third-party that the Engineers and the Timber Framer were highly unethical and that they knew that this Timberframe would not pass inspection. Only AFTER this information was given the the Homeowners was Kevin forced to come up with something to satisfy the Inspection for Building Code. Unthinkable behavior.
The most egregious part of this is that they saw the Homeowner as the low-guy on the totem pole and only as a one-time paying Client with little value to them, thus, treating an innocent family with such disrespect that could be swept under the rug casually was just part of the way that they do business for the less important projects.
After witnessing this construction deception, I vowed to never undertake any renovations in the State of Connecticut, one of the most corrupted places I have ever resided and I have lived all over the United States and Europe.
