I have been involved in many hiring decisions in Silicon Valley and an almost sure way to get your resume sent to the circular file for an entry level position in IT is to have ANY for profit school such as Devry, ITT Tech, University of Phoenix, Heald, Everest, etc. on it.
That may not be fair but those are the facts of life.
Most entry level IT jobs are of the throw away variety paying under $20 an hour without benefits. The booming IT field is anything but.
You don't need to go to college to pick up a cert. Pick up the book and read the material.

Ah yes, the for profit education market. With so many folks wanting to have that treasured piece of paper in the shortest amount of time. Just like with any traditional university you have to do your research. DeVry is an authorized education institution however, many of their credits will not transfer due to them not meeting whatever college or university you want to transfer too. It is true alot of companies do frown on these degrees mainly because it is the easy path. It shows that you would rather take the easy way rather then stick it out. In addition many employers have continuing education requirements that DeVry's degrees will not be able to prepare you for. Now that being said, the IT programs of some of these for profit colleges are worth a look at. The certifications they offer are worthwhile in the job market. My best advice again, is to do your research on the educational institution. Just because a place is certified does not mean it is universal.

Sad but true.
Devry degrees are worthless in search of employment.
Those unfortunately are the facts of life and it is hard to take any school seriously that is reduced to advertising on the AOL mail welcome page bragging "...is an olympic athlete and a Devry University student...".

Devry is a joke.
Every couple of days Devry advertises buys up the AOL mail welcome screen splashing "Donovan Ford is a 2016 US Olympic hopeful and a Devry university student". "...as they prepare for careers in tomorrow's leading fields. Business, Healthcare Management and Technology,..."
Reality Check.
NO ONE takes a Devry graduate seriously.
The problem for Devry is that everyone is figuring it out that ALL the for profit schools are a big joke with rapidly decreasing enrollments.

More than $1 TRILLION in Student Loans Outstanding in this Country
In the 1990s, for-profit colleges boomed by spending heavily on marketing and recruiting. Despite
numerous ethical lapses and fraud, enrollment more than doubled in the past decade and Wall Street swooned over the stocks. The tides are finally turning and it seems their ship has run aground Or should we say it sunk in the mighty sea of deception. DeVry let the winds of deception take their ship without steering. Oh, what a tangled web we weave...when first we practice to deceive.
