Mr. digonzar706 had a rear bumper cover for a 78 Trans Am I was interested in. He had it attached to the very heavy steel bumper, and only available for local pickup. I contacted him and asked if he was interested in selling me only the bumper cover, and shipping it to me. The plastic cover weighs only 8 pounds, and it was the only part I needed. He agreed and told me to buy the item (50 dollars) and he would arrange shipping.
He contacted me via eBay and said the shipping would be 200 dollars, for a total bill of 250 dollars. I went to UPS.com and checked his handy work: A package of 70x14x14 weighing 15 pounds (I figured packaging would increase the weight a little) would be 105.00 to ship. Surprisingly a package of 40 pounds was actually the same price shipping wise. Here it is. I had the packages shipped from Seattle as he never disclosed his location to me, that way the shipping is from coast to coast (I'm from NYS) and most likely would be the highest price. As you can see, he greatly embellished the shipping cost to make a buck off from me, which I totally understand...but 100 bucks? Come on man...I restore Muscle Cars for a living. I know that a plastic bumper cover, especially a small one...weigh no where near 40 pounds. Was it being shipped in a wooden crate?
Well, needless to say he retracted his offer, and cancelled the bid...thank god, right? No. He decides to leave feedback. Here it is:

Great. Now I am a loser, and a jerk. I wasn't aware that children were allowed on eBay. Anyways...Take it for what it is. Here are the messages between us from start to finish...Notice I didn't demand free shipping. I just demanded fair charges. Use UPS.com to check to the math and let his childish comments show how honest he is.
Also, NPD is not charging $300.00 for shipping on a new bumper cover. It's actually $65.00, see here. I have a very boring and undemanding job so I actually have time to research my claims.

40 pounds for the bumper cover?? Im going to call bullshit on that one. It's plastic. The entire bumper assembly doesnt even weigh 40 pounds. If you're telling me the cover weighs 40 pounds, you will need to find another idiot to make a buck off of because thats a total lie.

Its a 70x14x14 box weight they said about 40 lbs with packaging and insurance. You are welcome to get your own shipping and pay for it where all I have to do its drop it off and let them take care of it if you want. That is why I had it listed a pick up only because shipping for a big item its so expensive since they charge you for an oversized item.

Yes you are wrong and were being kind of a d*k.
1) You should NOT have bid before you knew the price of shipping or what he was going to ask for it. Don't forget it is his time and expense to package it, get a box, label it, drive to the PO, pay for insurance and confirmation etc...yes that costs something too.
2) He specifically stated "pick up only" for a reason in the listing yet he was willing to do this for you and you cheaped out and were nasty.
3) You left him negative feedback before he left that comment in your feedback. At least the comment he left had to go into positive feedback for you, you hurt him worse leaving a negative for him.
4) You got nasty first in the emails. What you should have said is you feel it is too high and can he have the weight checked or work with you. Instead you just went off accusing him of trying to rip you off when he was under no obligation to ship this item in the first place.
If you did not want to pay $250 for the bumper cover you should have let it go there and apologized to the guy, not raise a stink. I have shipped items that are oversize and it is always much more expensive then you would think, at least from USPS or UPS. It is buyers like you that make the ebay experience unpleasant for some.
Note: I have nothing to do with the seller and do not know him. Just giving my opinion on this as an objective ebay user and ethical buyer/seller.
