Reseller of Direct TV products contacted me by phone and said that my contract expired as of October 2011 and that they were contacting accounts "no longer under contract" to let them know that they qualified for the same services at a discounted cost (>50%) for renewing another 2 year contract. Since I am married, the new account would have to go under my husbands name. I called Direct TV and they let me know that my contract does not expire until November of 2012 and that the original date was October, but since I added HD services in November of 2010, it renewed the contract. When I notified the Direct TV Representative (did not get name), he stated that if I were to have taken the deal that I would be penalized for fraud. I then asked to speak with a supervisor because a customer service representative giving me legal advice instead of asking me for the reseller's information did not set well with me.  Carrisa "Carry" (Direct TV Supervisor) had confirmed this information. Again, did not ask me for the reseller's information just then.  I had to ask her why resellers are offering this deal.  I informed her that this sounded like a bait and switch to me. The resellers don't make this offer sound fraudulent, they make it sound like this is being offered so that we continue to stay as as a customer. So how does the consumer know and why would Direct TV consider this the consumer's responsibility?  Unless they bet on it. Needless to say, I just cancelled my Direct TV service.
