Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
My father who is in his 80's responded to a TV ad for DirecTV for service around $35.00. When he got the bill it was $69.72. So upon calling we learned that you have to have an Internet account registered with directv.com to apply for the "rebate" which is only good for one year out of an 18 month agreement.

When I asked why do they verbally promote the $35.00 monthly service with more HD than cable and not mention the rebate has to be applied for online and furthermore is only good for 12 months. Oh sir, "That's in the fine print on the TV ad", was what I was told! Fine print, bull-sh**.... As an Entrepreneur myself, I never relied on mis-leading the public to sell my services based on "fine print"! I'd further suggest that unethical corporations that do so will lose clients in the end!

The cancellation fee is $20 monthly for the remainder of the agreement which is currently $300 for him.... Do your-self a favor and go to http://www.dishnetwork.com which I just verified is cheaper from their web site comparison and doesn't use mis-leading advertising!

Go figure after the fact I fond out DirecTv has a history of false-advertising arround to URL:

http://www.multichannel.com/article/85292-Time_Warner_DirecTV_s_More_HD_Ads_False.php

and do a Google search for DirecTV false advertising:

http://www.google.com/search?q=Directv+false+advertising

and the most current news at the time of this writing is available at URL:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090512/media_nm/us_charter_directv

I for one will never conduct business with DirecTV and I'd bet a dollar to a donut my father will have converted to The Dish Network before just his contract expires ;)

Well, the fact is, every piece of information that you need to make an informed decision about directv services is included in every single piece of promotional material directv advertises with. The fact that you or your father failed to pay attention to the fine print is really not relevant. The fact that you don't agree with the fine print is not relevant. The fact is that you signed the work order and activated you equipment and doing so is a legally binding agreement to the services offered, not to mention the writing in the customer agreement, specifically Section 1(d) "Accordingly, we must reserve the unrestricted right to change, rearrange, add or delete our programming packages, the selections in those packages, our prices, and any other Service we offer, at any time." and Section 5, explaining any possible cancellation fees. No consumer walks blindly into an agreement. So if any constructive criticism could be offered, I suggest you pay better attention. Even Dish Network has fine print, have you read it yet?
