In the last week of Oct, 08 I requested Internet, telephone and TV service bundle from Verizon. Verizon installed the phone and internet service. Verizon subcontracted my order for the TV service to DIRECTV. At the time of placing the order for this service bundle with Verizon Customer rep, I was not informed about the 2-year service commitment with DIRECTV. Verizon customer service had a third party verification of the order verbally; even then I was not informed of the 2-year service commitment with Verizon for phone or internet and DirectV for TV services.

AFter installation of all three services in the first week of November, I was not satisfied with internet performance. Phone service was OK. I called in the last week of November to cancel the phone and internet with Verizon and returned the equipment. Since there was not service agreement for 2 years with Verizon, I paid for 1 month without any penalty. When I contacted Directv to terminate the service, they requested me to send the equipment which I did in mid Dec 08. I receive a bill for $460 for early termination. I called tyhe customer srvice in billing of Directv that I had made no such commitment either verabllyh or in a written form, they said such a commitment exists between Verizon and Directv.

Problem is that I was not informed by Verizon at the time of ordering and the technician of Directv did not mention or give paperwork informing of such.

I sent a letter of dispute to Billing of DIrectv and also filed a comp-laint with BBB.

Well Well Well... It amazes me when I hear of this complaint. I have had many types of services(cable, dish netowrk, directv, at&t, t-mobile, etc...) Everyone of the companies that I have dealt with has required me to either verbally over the phone to agree to a contract or sign paperwork at the store or at my home for the service. All of the advertising states 2 years, 1 year, etc... agreements. I am not defending the customer service experiences that you might have dealt with because all experiences are based on the attitude of the individuals envolved at that time and the subject of the communication with the company. I believe that you need to take time and ask those questions bbefore you sign on the dotted line or ask for a upgrade of equipment. People tend to act like a kid in a candy store when something new comes into their lives athat they fail to read the paperwork they sign. I suggest that if you go with any type of tv service provider, to ask those questions. I know I do.

ummm...directv is paying me nothing at all to voice my opinion. i think you know as well as i do that they don't do that.

i am simply explaining things as they are. i have had directv for many, many years long before i ever worked for directv. i read everything i signed and got in the mail when i placed my order because i have enough sense to not sign anything without reading it first. the reason directv started the whole 3rd party verification is because as the agent went through all the disclosures with customers when placing orders, they didn't pay attention to most of the information given to them and never read the paper signed at upgrade installations and then called to cancel and were not happy when they were told of their early term fee. if a customer places an order now, we have them recorded at this other company saying yes to their agreement and if they don't accept it, their order is cancelled by the 3rd party company. there is no way around this now, the customer can't say they were not told anymore.

cleary you hate directv because you were probably fired for doing things against company policy, i don't know the reason...but you really should stop slandering them because they can take you to court for slander.  i have read many of your comments on here and they do nothing to help these people. you just encourage them to believe what they think is right, and it's not always accurate. i simply try to educate them on why things happened the way they did for them in their situation. i guess that is why you are not working for directv anymore...you never really cared about the customer.

obviously directv is paying you a lot of money to defend their company.  my question to you is....are your morals so low that you would stoop to defend a company who chooses to ripoff a country who has put them on the map in the first place?  i'm sure if the shoe was on the other foot, it would be different for you.

directv's practices are so deceiving that, obviously, the public is fighting back.  you will not win this fight.  i will encourage people to voice their complaints as long as directv is dong business.

directv owes the public an apology (and probably monies that was obtained immorally/illegally) for all of the deceptive policies/practices and i will not stop until we get one.

To The Public:  directv trains their employees to be deceptive and if they are not they are penalized.  i cannot stress enough....DON'T LET THIS COMPANY GET AWAY WITH IT!

3rd party verification

#6Consumer Comment

Fri, October 08, 2010

it is a 3rd party doing it, so yes it would be used for any dispute. customers all the time say they aren't told about this and about that, which is why it's there now. everytime a customer tries to pull that now, you're recording will be pulled verifying that yes, you did in fact agree to it.

Third Party Verification

Regarding "third party verification": To the best of my recollection, every time I talked to customer service the conversation was recorded. Do you honestly think that, in the case of a dispute, this company of crooks would use the recordings to prove themselves wrong?.

Now they have a verification department

DTV now has a third party verification department, now everytime that you want to order any equipment or service you must pass trhu a call 100% recorded with your consent, In this call recorded you agree with all the terms of your order, so theres no more excuses !!

It is your responsibilty to know what your signing. The tech cannot complete/get paid/activate your acct until you sign the lease agreement! Yes a lot of people do complain, those same people were too lazy to read what they were signing off on, you are adults start acting like it. Go ahead and get a lawyer and take legal action against them, all your going to be doing is waisting more money.

It seems to me that there are ALOT of similiar complaints about these new contracts Directv is issuing without consumers knowing about them. One websight that I viewed said there were over 20,000 complaints. That is alot of complaints about the same thing. It is a very bad business practice. I believe that it should be Directv's respesonibility to let consumers know up front that if they do anything for you at all you have to renew your contract. I also am a 6 year "victim" of Directv as was a co worker of mine. I told him about my experience and the next day Directv visited his house and he sent them back down the road. They tried to stick him with a contract also for an upgrade and the installers exact words were " They were supposed to tell you on the phone that you would be under contract for 18 more months". Just remember, when you do something good that one person tells 10 people. When you scam them they tell everyone!!!! Your business is like the Hotel California, you can check out but can never leave. I would never recommend Directv. Not because of the programing, but over all of the deception. I feel lucky, I cancelled my credit card before they could charge it. I had already read comments so I knew what was coming. Next step, BBB and Public Service Commision. Maybe enough complaints can put them out of business.

typical customer thinking they know it all and are always right

this was all set up thru verizon, not directv. i don't see how you are able to say that directv is at fault here given that you admit to signing up with all services thru verizon. you do nothing but complain about the service you had with verizon when you said nothing was wrong with the directv service, so what is the problem that you wanted to cancel? you had to sign something at the time the tech did the install and that was your customer agreement. so many times do customers sign off on the install and then don't bother to read what they sign. you were not verbally informed by verizon...how is that directv's fault? as i have stated before...you signed the agreement and didn't read it. i know some customer service reps are not good at their job and don't handle things well, but there are others like myself that make sure the customer is very informed of everything and want the customer to be happy without giving in to everything b/c believe me, there are customers who expect us to give them the moon, but you should not fault an entire company b/c of verizon and b/c of some customer service reps who don't know how to talk to people.

Contract states it

When I signed up for directv I thought I had a 1 year contract, and I called to cancel..they informed me it was 2 year for special HD equipment, so I looked at the contract and sure enough it says it right there. So here I am waiting out my 2 years as I agreed too. The only issue I would have is if you went to cancel and they did not tell you about the fee, then charged you for it, but since it states it clearly on the contract..you have to honor your end. The company is Scum though, due to thier other business practices and poor service.

Apparently "Mommy of 2" has been instructed by her employer to post one liners in defense of DirecTV. Typical of this company. They are decieving and provide extremely poor custome service. Mommy of 2's responses tells it all.

You signed the agreement when you signed the paper for the tech after he completed the job. It's your fault you never read what you signed.
