After being ripped off my shutter order for thousands of dollars, I thought I would never be able to fight these crooks alone. All you people at the meeting today are INCREDIBLE! I thought that coming all the way to Arizona might be throwing good money after bad, but I couldn't believe how many of you had the smae situation as us and are committed to banding together to go after these thieves!!!

L, I checked on the the tax evasion issue you suggested, and foudn that teh right people to contact are the Feds, specifically the IRS Criminal Investigative Unit. The Dept of Revenue deals with tax evasion issues, but the Fed IRS Unit will allow us to file all our info no matter what state these criminals ripped us off in adn deal with the criminal reporting of these cases.

Helllo, My name is Travis. I am the 3rd generation owner of a window covering business based in southern Idaho. I am replying to this posting for the simple reason that I find the same thing happening all too often in my area, I would certainly agree that the individuals who perpetrated this fraud are probably guilty however I would like to question the consumer on what they truly expected. I have been involved in the window covering business in one aspect or another nearly all my life, My grandparents began our business over 50 years ago and the only reason it has survived in this relatively small community is that honesty is # 1 always. The one glaring sign I see in reading the post is the name of the vendor anytime I see a vendor with discount or budget or something similar I immediately question the service they will provide, and with window coverings you are certainly providing a service you could easily go to home depot or lowes not to mention several other places and get cheap shutters, what you have complained about is quality and service, I say you get what you pay for no apologies provided. I will not "match my competitors " prices or "beat anyone on price". However I will provide you a fair service for a fair price, if we agree on that basic principle we will be friends and maintain a relationship for a long time and rather than complaining to your friends about the crappy shutter schmuck you will have something to brag about and believe me you will to the point that your friends badger you for my contact info. In short I am truly sorry that you were unable to get the service you wanted for nothing however I would say that the cheapest bid is never the one I would go with, as someone in this management end of this business for 12+ years I would say that in order to provide a good level of service I must charge a fair and reasonable price for my products there is always someone cheaper but there will never be someone better, that is the mantra I work by.

I also agree with the writer who stated that if Discount Blinds stopped doing business on 10/5/05, how come they took my order & $2700.00 on 10/8/05? They also took my brother's order and money on 10/18/05? Please let us know if you have any information on how to get into the class action lawsuit.

We wanted to let everyone know that Rick Debruhl of Channel 12 has been in touch with us and is trying to help. Our suggestion would be that as many of us as possible contact him because even though we are all in this together, our stories vary. Now is the time to hit Discount Blind and Shade hard and not stop. Would someone from Shoreline please contact us or respond to this rebuttal. We would like to know who to get our names on the class action lawsuit and to help in anyway. We totally agree with the writer who stated that if DB&S stopped doing business on 10/5/04, why did they take her money after that? I guess they needed to finish that pool in their backyard. Let's not give up -- they are outnumerbed. Thanks to the Editor of this website and its staff. You are doing a wonderful thing that no one else has done. We will be eternally grateful.

Update to Our Hearing & to Tempe, AZ meeting

First, we are so sorry that we were not aware of the meeeting in Tempe on Thursday or Friday, but our computer was completely down! Hurray for all of us and a very big thank-you to Shoreline! On Monday, we will be contacting the Tax Fraud Dept. and filing info on the IRS website you provided. You are right -- Kristen and Ken did indeed purchase a large house in AZ with an even bigger swimming pool!! They most likely purchased this with all of our money! We had our hearing before the Administrative Law Judge (Strickland) on Thursday, January 19th. Sure enough, the crooks showed up and showed up with their 4 year old daughter!! No respect for the Judge whatsoever. We were there for over 3 hours!! At numerous times, Judge Strickland did loose his patience with Kristen (who did the talking, while Ken whispered what to say in her left ear!) As many of you know, I am a paralegal and this proceeding was a nightmare. I had prepared a lenghtly pre-hearing memorandum with 10 attachments and when the Judge was putting it into evidence Kristen piped up and said they never received one. Oh gee, what a surprise. Knowing these people, I had an extra copy with me, and I told the Judge I had done so because I expected this to be their first move! To make a very, very, very long story short, we were asking for a full refund ($2,815.00) for shutters that we did not receive and/or for repair of the ones that we had that were not installed properly! After 3 hour Judge Strickland did say that these jokers were "in breach of contract", but that we would not get a total refund. We are now just waiting for his ruling. Ken and Kristen couldn't run out of the hearing room fast enough! Also, kudos to Peggy for coming with us. She had a wealth of information for us. Unfortunately, some it the Judge found as "hearsay" and some he said did not come under his jurisdiction. Peggy had paperwork indicating that Kristen signed a "Fictious Name" document with a Mr. Patai as the ownder. The address was in Tempe, AZ. When the Judge asked her what this was she said "because I'm not married to Mr. Patai I had to sign this document, so I can write checks for his company!" WHAT??? The Judge was astonished, but took it into consideration. DB&S stopped doing business according to her on October 10/5/05 and this document was signed 2 days later. Ken finally was allowed to speak and said that they DB&S were filing for bankruptcy on Tuesday, January 24. When the Judge said "you are filing Chapter 11, correct?" Mr. Smarty said "Oh, no were are filing Chapter 7". The Judge was astonished and said "I hope you have a good attorney." For most of us we are going to have to file as "creditors" when these crooks file bankruptcy and get in line with everyone else. But, with the new information I read this morning, they are in store for a rude awakening one the IRS and Feds get involved. Please let us know how we can get on whatever lawsuits you all discussed last week and/or any other info that we might have missed. Together, and with Shoreline's help and with all the knowledge we all have combined, Ken and Kristen will no longer be able to do this ever again. Please keep us posted and we will do the same.

IRS Criminal Investigation Unit Tax Evasion Info to use against Discount Blind, Montoya Wolf and Partners

I think everyone was overwhelmed by all the people who came together yesterday to take action against the owners and partners of Discount Blind yesterday! I've made a Master List of the contact info we shared and will send the info to your emails so that we may collaborate our efforts privately and offline, hopefully by Monday. For now, we all just need to focus on getting the individual tasks done that we discussed yesterday. If you were not at the meeting and would like to begin taking action against these people on your own, consider calling the IRS Criminal Investigation Unit and filing a report on SUSPECTED TAX FRAUD ACTIVITY. There number is 1-800-829-0433. Since we all had the same story, we KNOW these guys are making out like bandits with the Federal Government. When I spoke with an agent this week, he said he'd be interested in looking into this situation. We have the proof of our not having to pay taxes at the sale, per the contracts we made with Discount Blind and are cancelled checks and credit card receipts. Therefore THEY are the responsible party to do so !! We're ripped off and clearly upset about falling for the scam these folks perpetuated on us across several states. Together, the money we're all out is unbelieveable! Just consider the reaction from the FED GOVT! The IRS Criminal Investigation Unit website states: "Compliance with the tax laws in the United States relies heavily on self-assessments of what tax is owed. This is called voluntary compliance. When individuals and corporations make deliberate decisions to not comply with the law, they face the possibility of a civil audit or criminal investigation which could result in prosecution and possible jail time."
