DISH Network has a "Refer-a-Friend" program.  They tell you if you refer a friend, you receive $50.  It has come to my attention that the $50 off your bill ONLY goes to the NEW customer who is referred.  The person doing all of the work - the one who is doing the referring - only receives $5 off per month for ten months!  After getting caught up in the deception, I did note that it is posted on TV ads for one to two seconds, in print so small you cannot read it. (You asctually have to record and stop the ad to read it!) The website also has "Refer-a-Friend" logo icons with an astersik after the $50....but no reference point to what the astersik means.  Deceptive advertsing, pure and simple.  Not worth the effort to be a sales rep for DISH Network.  The pay ain't worth it!

You just wouldn't let the issue rest. I said it was resolved. But the DISH rep wants to rip the scab off the wound.

The point is: The advertising is deceptive! If I am sight impaired, do I hear that the person who sells DISH to someone else gets the money in $5 increments?? NO!!

So stop attempting to defend purposely decpetive ads! Although our case is closed, we still will no longer refer others to DISH because the ads aren't being changed to "you can get $5 off per month per customer for ten months!" That's because it doesn't sound as good as $50 off, with little teenie-tiny print at the bottom nobody could read on a jumbo-tron!!

Bill,

A situation like the one you've described about an issue with the referree's phone number is a matter we can discuss with that customer directly.  As far as your concern with the $50 in referral credits, the response given earlier on here is absolutely correct.  The $5 off your bill for ten months of service equates to a total of $50.  If I may assist you further with this or any other questions you have about the service, please feel free to email me at [email protected] and it'll be my pleasure to hear from you!

Sometimes you have to keep trying.  "Sam", an account specialist, was able to take the $50 off immediately.  She also felt the TV ads were a little on the deceptive side, not stating "$5 per month for ten months."  I asked "Sam" why she had the power to do what the guy handling the BBB complaint couldn't do.  All she said was the power structure is set up a little differently at DISH.  But first, let me tell you how I got the ball rolling this evening.  I was so angry at the rebuttal on here, that I assumed it was from a DISH employee.  So I called DISH and told them I didn't want their charity and they could keep their lousy $5 per month.  The folks at DISH were so startled by this, they quickly jumped into action.  My seven and a half years of seniority with DISH also helps.  So, situation is resolved - case closed.

"Existing customer receives $5/mo. Credit for 10 months. New customer receives $50 credit on first bill. Requires 24-month commitment and credit qualification. To be valid, Referral Certificate Number must be presented at time of order for service, prior to activation""

I copied this from the Dish website and 5 x 10 DOES indeed equal $50. I really don't see the "deception" in this.

I've received this bonus several times.

I was just telling someone about my DISH story at the local post office.  The gentlman I was speaking with said that he had been ripped off on a "Refer a Friend" promotion, too!  He said that he was a new customer; the one that is suppose to receive the $50 off immediately.  However, he never received his $50 credit because DISH claimed Mr. G's PHONE NUMBER owed DISH more than $400 in past due bills!  This means that DISH was not going going by Mr. G's name, but by his new telephone number! (The previous holder of Mr. G's telephone number 'closed up shop' and left alot of bills behind.  Mr. G was just a victim of circumstance, getting a phone number of someone who owed a lot of debt....)
