Send their equipment back. You were hit with the 400$ fee because you did not return their equipment immediately. They will not refund your money as long as you have the equipment. they did not illegally take your money, when you signed for the new boxes, you agreed to their terms and conditions. One of those is that they can draft your account for the equipment recovery fee.

but the contract you signed gave them the permission to take the money from your credit card or debit card. when you failed to meet your contract obligation. it might have been their mistake not giving you the option to pay your bill and giving you a reasonable chance in doing so. but once you made the decision to turn it off and cancell the serivce . then it was on you. that when the installation was done . the installer was to have given you a chance to read the contract and give you a copy once you signed it. did you read the contract and did you receive a copy of the contract. if you really feel wronged in this go to the attorney general, consumer affairs, bbb, having your bank do what they are doing for you now in retrieving your money. if you didnt get a copy of your contract try to get a copy from dish network. the contract states that you must return the receivers in a timely manner. that if you dont that they will charge you for the equipment and also for the breach of the contract. on top of that it may go as far as being reported to the credit agencies. everyone read the contract or invoice before you sign it. dont sign it before the installation is complete and make sure you get a copy. because if your now happy with what is being done. dont sign anything. get them to make it right then.
