While on vacation in Florida with my family, I rented a car from Dollar Rental car. I informed the Dollar Rental Agent Iris, that I waived/declined all insurances and she informed me that by initialing the bottom section of the agreement, I had declined all insurances.Which appeared to be accurate.

I don't know if she(agents) make a commission on selling insurance but I was willfully mislead. And when I returned the car, another agent told me I was being credited $382.21 back to my credit card. At that point, I thought I was being charged $57.79 from the $440.00 hold on my credit card. Which would have been correct for taxes. Come to find out I was charged for insurance that I never needed or wanted.

I have e-mailed Dollar Rental car on several occasion but have gotten no where. They won't even return my emails.

I want everyone to know the scam Dollar rental pulls on families while on vacation in Florida.

Part of renting a car is reading the contract and understanding what you are signing for.  There is no one to blame other than yourself.  You carelessly signed a legally binding document... a document that clearly states exactly what was added and what was declined.  The agreement also shows the final estimated charges, which you appearantly didn't even read.

It sounds like the misunderstanding was on your part. The 440. hold on your card was the purchase amount- 382.21 plus 15%.  Why would you be charged 57.79?  That doesn't make sense, unless actually believed the rental to be $57.79?

If anything had happened to that car while in your possession, you were fully covered.   You would have used the LDW which was on your contract and probably had your initials next to it.  You wouldn't have had to pay for loss of use or file a claim because you had that coverage.  And you would have been grateful to have had the coverage on the car.  Instead, you were lucky to not have to use it.

Consider this a lesson learned.  People make mistakes.  Maybe you asked the rental agent for the "waiver" thinking that meant you were waiving all coverage.  Maybe the agent thought you wanted the waiver (ldw) and even told you to initial where it said you were waiving responsibility.  Misunderstandings do happen, so it is up to you to do your part by knowing what you are initialing and signing.
