Complaint Review: Doug Weaver - PS Racing - Burbank California

In 2005 I brought my 1975 Porsche 914 chalon to Doug Weaver for a fuel system problem. One the first go around he managed to get the car running for exactly 3 days at a cost of $436.30 plus 4 weeks in the shop, and of course the car stopped running blocks away from his place of business. After another 9 days at his place of business, plus an additional $245.95, his solution was to bypass the fuel regulator relay and hot wire the fuel pump directly which over pressurized the fuel line and cased an engine fire on March 3rd of 2005. When the fire happened my mother at the age of 79 almost died because she could not exit the vehicle in time. If it were not for the quick efforts of the Lowes Hardware employees running out with extinguishers, it would have been a very tragic day. Burbank fire department investigated the cause of the fire and determined that it was in fact a fuel line rupture caused by the exact situation described.

Doug Weaver made all kinds of promises, all kinds of apologies and of course offered to "fix" the vehicle but of course the insurance would cover it. It took Mercury insurance 4 weeks of calling Doug Weaver to get a written quote to repair all the damage to the vehicle. On April 15, 2005 work was authorized by Mercury Insurance and on April 29, 2005 Doug Weaver CASHED a two party check from Mercury Insurance for all of the work to the vehicle "without my signature, approval or knowledge". At no time was I ever given an estimate for the work or signed any document that authorized the work, but was told by Mr. Weaver that the insurance company had taken care of it .

Month after month rolled by and no work was taking place to my car even after numerous attempts to meet with Doug Weaver, yet still there was no work proceeding. After four months of constant calling and stopping by, hearing story after story that parts are not available and he was waiting for someone else to send him stuff, he finally informed me on August 4th at 4:35pm, 2005 (in the presence of witnesses) he finally would have the car finished in 8 weeks.

On Saturday, October 29 at 2:pm of 2005 Doug Weaver informed me he had lost his mechanics and was making every effort to finish my car, that he needed more time and he personally guaranteed the Porsche 914 would be completed for me to pick up on February 1st. I had asked at that time to give me a quote on how much it would be to replace the front end suspension since the car was going to still be there. Of course I never got a quote or authorized work.

During the time of the holidays and in the month of January the car took a back seat to the concerns of my Mother from suffering a stroke. However, on Wednesday, February 1st I discovered not one bit of work had been done to my car and I was unable to remove my car from PS Racing, it had been wedged into a corner by other cars in his lot.

On February 6, 2006, I started legal proceeding against Doug Weaver and PS Racing for damages to my vehicle and my personal life. In the month of March I received call after call from Doug Weaver pleading with me not to seek legal action and the my car would be done in 10 to 12 weeks. Still caring for my Mother who lives 700 miles away, and running my business, everything in life stopped with the passing of my Mom on June 16, 2006. I agreed to Mr. Weavers promises and called off the legal action so I could close out my Mother's estate.

After her passing and finalizing all her financial obligations, I return my attentions to Doug Weaver to discover the issue of the cashed check from Mercury Insurance and how he had illegally deposited it. Furthermore, I had discovered that some of the parts from my car were missing and are still missing to this very day. I was finally able to remove my vehicle from PS Racing and bring it to another repair facility. Valley European Porsche informed me of the extensive damage and missing parts, they agreed to help me with my car and it is where the car still sits today, because I do not have the money to repair the extensive damage caused by Doug Weaver.

Doug Weaver and I had made one final agreement that I set in writing which Doug Weaver refused to sign, so I sued Doug Weaver (dba) PS Racing. After months of delays in the legal system I finally won a judgement against Doug Weaver ( case number BUR07S00470) and have tried to collect on that judgement since. I have discovered that Doug Weaver is not only hiding money from me and avoiding others who have sued him but is also defrauding the Federal Government by evading taxes and not reporting income earned.

It has also come to our attention from our own investigations about Doug Weaver that his operation does in fact deal with questionable parts and does, as he has been accused of, tamper with customers vehicles for his own gain (much to the remorse of one of my neighbors) . This man is a crook in every sense of the word and is protected by some individuals in the city as a "friend" to those in power.

He has been reported to the bureau of consumer affairs, to the bureau of automotive repairs and to law enforcement, yet he still operates a business (if you can call it that) and survives of location alone. Something must be done, the legal system is obviously impotent and completely powerless to do anything about a criminal predator to consumers in Burbank California.
