On the week of April 7th 2008, i took my 2006 Nissan 350Z to Douglas Nissan in Orange, CA to inspect my clutch, as the "top end play" was very loose. After speaking with a service rep., they informed me it will cost $100 to just perform the inspection. After a few minutes of negotiating, they waived the fee.

I dropped of my car to them around 10 AM on Friday morning. After about an hour, they called me to let me know there is nothing wrong with my car, so come pick it up. I insisted there is something wrong with my car's clutch, as I have been the only owner for the past 3 years, and recognized when something is wrong. With reluctance, they agree to look at it again.

Three hours later, they call back to let me know I need a new clutch, but to be sure they would need to tear down the whole clutch system. That would cost me $650 for the inspection. The clutch would be an additional $1,000. I declined to have them look at it any further, and took my car.

On the Saturday following, I took the car to two independent ASE/Nissan Certified mechanics and they diagnosed the problem. It was the slave cylinder that would need replacement. The cost? $250 with 2 hours of labor. Mike's Z Shop in Whittier, CA performed the repair, and now the clutch is working perfectly.

My encounter with Douglas Nissan was one that I suspected would happen. First, they try to rip you off of $100 to inspect the car, followed by an incompetent "technician", ending with a nice attempt to "rip-off" another customer, or shall I say, "ex-customer".
