I had disastrous LASIK peformed by Dr. Dean Dornic in 2007. On the day of surgery I had second thoughts - the office staff was very pushy, instructing me to take three valiums and THEN decide to have the surgery. How is a person to make a logical decision about an irreversible medical procedure under the influence of powerful drugs? I went ahead with the surgery, and as a result, I face many life-altering complications that I now know are common after LASIK.

I feel that Dr. Dean Dornic does not throughly pre-screen his patients for dry eye. I clearly told Dr. Dean Dornic and his office staff that I was unable to wear contact lenses due to dry eye, which is a red flag for the development for serious post-LASIK dry eye - YET they told me that I was a good canidate for the surgery!

After surgery, I immedately experienced overwhelming pain that continues to this day. LASIK surgery invovles cutting into the cornea, severing crucial corneal nerves, resulting in chronic nerve and dry eye pain in many patients.

I am currently on 3 medications to handle the pain and anxiety I feel as a result of my LASIK disaster with Dr. Dean Dornic. Dr. Dean Dornic and his staff were very impatient with me after the surgery, insisting that "there is no medical reason" for my pain, although there is much peer-reviewed medical literature to support the existance and mechanism of post-LASIK eye pain!

I have missed countless days of work, my family does not understand what I am going though... I am in constant pain and the meds to control the pain make me groggy.

I want others to know about the comfort and quality of life that I have LOST, so that they can make a more informed decision about LASIK eye surgery.

From the FDA transcripts:

Dr. I Howard Fine, Past President of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery:

"As we all know, Lasik transects the cornea nerves, therefore inducing dry eyes in most patients."

Even the FDA now warns that LASIK dry eye can be permanent!

RE: Having the responsibility of due diligence

Each individual is responsible for performing due diligence ito understand what they are having done, especially surgically. Why would you say they gave you drugs to talk you into doing this surgery? I'm sure you made the choice to take the pills (they forced you???) By the time they offer you the Valuum to ease your anxiety you should have already made your mind up about having surgery. Also you should have gotten a second opinion, and possibly a third opinion before making a decision about surgery. You made it sound as if they cooecred you by giving you drugs. I cannot find any credibility in your complaint. I imagine you were already aware you had dry eyes, so why didn't you ask the doctor about this condition? And, since Google is available to everyone why didn't you do multiple searches about this surgery? Me and my husband are considering surgery to have our lens' replaced, and I have done a weeks worth of searching on every site available, writing down all our questions, and will be consulting witb Dr. Dornic again before we schedule anything. We are always ultimately responsible for making our own decisioons in life, and personally I educate myself as much as possible.

Hate to hear about the LASIK experience of the complainant...my highly respected eye doctor recommended Dr. Dornic when I inquired about LASIK. I spoke with others who had LASIK with Dr. Dornic and did my research.

I was nothing but impressed and amazed from start to finish with the results, the surgeon, and his practice.  Dr. Dornic will spend plenty of time discussing the risks and potential complications, so by no means did I get the impression that any patient would be pressured.

Best decision I ever made...thankful for my now 20/15 vision!
