I received a letter in the mail on February 27 telling me that I had won the Spanish lottery sweepstakes/International program and to contact Dr. William Davidson Sr. to begin my claim . The letter gave me a fax and phone number and an email adress for Dr. Davidson , I contacted Dr. davidson and was told that I would need to send 1580.00 in order to have the check released and sent to me . I then sent to him 1580.00 by moneygram on March 8 and he emailed me a copy of the check . I was to recieve my check by certified mail on Thursday March 11 . I received a call from Dr. Davidson Wednesday morning telling me that the bank sending the check had put a hold on it until the taxes were paid and that I would need to send 9,079.50 in order to lift the hold and recieve my check. I told him that I did not have that kind of money that I allready sent him everything I had . He told me to see if I could come up with it and call him back , I then called my bank thinking maybe they would loan it to me until I received my check . I was told by the loan officer that it sounded like a scam and that I should call an attorney and see if I could get it checked out , I then called an attorney here in town and he said to call the police and make a report that it was indeed a scam . I have called the police and I am suppose to go today and make a report. I decided to try to find out something on the computer about it and when I typed in the info I discovered other claims of fraud for the exact samr thing and for the exact same winning amount .Everything seemed so legit , I had a phone and fax number and email adress so I thought it couldnt be a scam if it were they wouldnt give me their info but I was wrong and now I feel so stupid not to mention I have given away every penny I have managed to save for me and my daughter .

First off..did you ever hear of a lottery you win..but never entered?

Ever hear of a lottery run by a Doctor?

Did you ever hear of a lottery where you have to send money to receive your winnings? Heck I would have told them to deduct it from my winnings..and keep a few thousand as a tip. Normally if you win a lottery you meet at an office to collect. If not, didn't you question why they would not simply send the winnings minus any fees etc?

I know that many fall for this scam..it is very common, unfortunately you found out the expensive way. It's a good thing however you didn't have the other $9,079.50 to send..or that would have been gone to. Once they saw you sent the first lump..they new they had a live one.

I hope the authorities can do something to help you..but chances are you sent a moneygram to another country..which it will never be seen again.

I hope by posting it here others may not fall victim, money is too scarce these days to give it to scammers. Phone, fax and email accounts can be changed in a minute and there is no limit to changing these things. For 10 bucks you can by a cell phone and throw it out when you are done. Email accounts are free. All these things leave no trace since you do not have to give legit information to get a prepaid phone or free email account.

I know you stated that you felt stupid, but don't be too hard on yourself. Many people fall sucker to these animals if they are desperate for extra cash and never heard of this scam. I get a few of these sent to me a month stating everything from I won a lottery, to I inherited a castle or mansion..to help launder money soldiers found from Saddam Hussein's palace, or some millions of dollars that someone needs my help to get out of their country and will give me a healthy percentage...you name it, they think of it. If you think about it..it's not that hard to give away millions of dollars to where they are going to choose me to give it to by a random email. It just makes no sense at all.

The thing is..I can't even win a 2 dollar scratch off..what are the chances by some random lottery that I never even entered..that I will get millions or a mansion. Not going to happen like that..I need to do it the old fashioned way..hard work.

I do hope things work out for you and feel sorry for you and your daughter.
